Great transformation bro you are an inspiration, most pages and forums are packed with guys saying its a waste of time and money just buy a turbo xr6 but you have shown us its possible on a half decent budget👍

It amazes me how smooth these turbo Barras run. Putting down 350+ ponies and you couldn’t tell if you didn’t look at the rear tires, then all of a sudden the dunk is done and the whole car rocks.

ok im very surprised about that i wouldnt believe that wouldnt make over 100hp more from that with all ebay parts ...i was wrong :) good job nice work (it maybe barra 182 but its quick ) (BARRA'S FOR LIFE)

Yeah man and In reality I could push it harder tuning wise, but I'll save that for a different budget engine build :) only running low boost too 👌

Hey Ross, congrats on the build mate! It must be pretty satisfying watching her come up on boost and put down +360hp at the treads with ease. I'm actually about to embark on a similar build and was hoping I could pick your brain about some of the fittings used and oil return pipe bung for the sump?? Did you use the factory oil and water lines?? And I see you were driving it too the tuner, did it fire up and run alright with the 2.5bar MAP sensor, or is that with the N/A MAP sensor? Oh, and did you use both MAP sensors ("pre intercooler" one on charge pipe near battery tray, and "post intercooler" located inside the intake manifold? I'm guessing the answers I'm after are likely in your previous videos, so I apologize for asking you to short hand a good heap of info. As far as I know, aside from a brass 1/8" NPT adaptor for the oil feed, water lines to and from turbo, oil return pipe, the 2nd MAP sensor, a dump pipe to go from the GT3582R, down into my 4" dump back exhaust that dumps over the diff. Otherwise, the list of bits I have... *BA XR6T manifold *Garrett GT3582R ball-bearing turbo *SCT XCAL3 flash tuner *Bosch 550cc injectors *4 bar FPR (XR6T) *ARP head bolts *FG turbo Valve Springs with college and retainers. *Aeromotive 340Lph fuel pump *PWR trans-cooler *Boost pressure solenoid *4in alloy 'cooler piping with remote mount Throttle Body pipe *Earles braided oil feed line with 10 micron filter *various gauges for monitoring engine & trans vitals I'm sure there's more but this is all off the top of my head. I was putting it all into my low km, 1 previous owner, Vixen Red 04 BA XT with 4 speed BTR and 3.44 diff (was 3.23 but I wanted better take off, funnily enough, it ended up being quicker than the N/A XR6 due to the less equipped XT weighing almost 100kg lighter.) But I found an absolute bargain of a Barra! Cost me less than a ZF conversion would have!! She's a light metallic blue, Oct 2006 build date, BF XT mk2 with 190Kw Barra on duel fuel, ZF 6 speed auto, and 3.23LSD (should be 2.77, so she loves frying the "concaved" 245mm wide 18's that came on it in 1st, 2nd and it tries holding 3rd but its like the DSC (I think it's the stability control interfering) tries taking over at this point. She has the premium colour screen dual zone climate with premium audio (not factory I don't think, but works properly instead of both sides always being the same temp, this one works independently from each other), slotted brake rotors with DBA sports pads. So I decided to strip my good bits off my BA and whack them on the BF. And then I stumble on your dyno video and there is basically my project car getting run up on the rollers... I'm so close to getting all this turbo gear bolted on, just doing diff bushes and tailshaft bearing before I go get rego and roady sorted, then it's game on! Sorry for the long read, but it's been a headache finding good, accurate and detailed information on this setup, and here you've already built and had it tuned... If nothing else, you've inspired and motivated me to get shit done! Thanks for your time, and best of luck with the BF.

Hey man! cheers! longest comment i ever saw :P first up ill just say i have a "what you need " video explaining what i used but ill try and answer most of these :) Im only using oil cooling for the turbo and it was a mamba kit off ebay , pretty cheap .no water cooling needed at low boost. it wont run with the turbo map sensor only with the na one, just make sure fpr is installed or you could cause some real damage. install turbo map on dyno. im only using the turbosmart actuator to control boost so no only the one sensor. the oil feed is 3/8 bsp hex, 3/8 bsp t piece, 3/8 bsp female to -4 male. that will allow you to tap into the oil temp sensor.. not the oil pressure which is the one your thinking about. -4 will link up to your turbo oil lines. and as far as oil drain. mamba make a kit on ebay for the gt3582, cheap as. you just finish a allready pre drilled hole on the sump, and 2 little hole that you have to cut a thread in. hope this helps goodluck! sounds like your car will be fun too

Great video how do the NA engines hold together over the turbo units. I thought the turbo engines were lower compression and forged internals. Interested as would like to have one one day.

Cheers mate, yeah the turbo engines have bigger rods from bf onwards and lower comp. The n/a engines have their limitations but it's pretty similar to a ba xr6 turbo engine as they didnt get the big rods either. So yeah definately good if not chasing massive power figures and you tune accordingly:)

I had one running 321rwkw at 13psi, it lasted around 2 and a half years of decent punishment, before I blew a hole in the block. That was a completely stock N/A engine, just with valves done and injector/intercooler upgrade etc. Tuning is probably the most important thing, more so than compression

Yeah tuned it to that power for safety purposes, just wanted to see how everything would hold up as is especially the gearbox , have a few things I want to do to it before going for 400 :) wouldn't go and further than that without head studs and valves though 👌

Hey mate still going strong :) upgraded the turbo to another ebay turbo, both are still good, no shaft play etc. Even have done a couple events since then 😎 you can check out the progress if you like 👌

How do you get the metal shavings out of the block when you drill and tap it

I left the oil in the car, used drilling grease, drilled slowly taking out shavings as I went. Then as soon as I finished drained the oil :) havent had any issue 👌

Quick question. Car goes in for conversion Wednesday did you change the fuel pressure reg once at the tuner or did you change it before hand?

Before.... the map sensor has to go in on the dyno if you need to drive it there :)

@@zanelewis834 unless it's a hub dyno you probably gonna need to be able to drive it on the dyno.. they could plug into the ecu before it's on the dyno, won't run with the new map sensor.. best to check with your tuner to make sure 🤟

There wasnt at this point, I did install a shift kit and pwr transmission cooler after this, but as for the box itself.. completely stock 4spd. Been through several events now and it's still going strong :)

What was the cost for parts and a tune to get it to this stage? Are you going to get it engineered to have it legal?..i haven't watched ur other vids yet sorry if you have mentioned it already

Gday it was about 1700 in parts up to this point, I did purchase most of this stuff earlier in the year... couple things have gone up in price since, barra parts prices are rising. I won't need to engineer in wa, they came out as a factory turbo and the rego papers dont specify between xt,xr6, xr6 turbo so should be all sweet :) I have a video on what I used of that helps, my tune cost 750 but I'm friends with my tuner
