Nice job! You can use a pvc pipe to hide the excess wires coming out of the controller. Just cut it in half and "clamp" it on the frame with the wires inside it. That's how i had it on mine.

Did the same with my last build. The piece of 22mm poly pipe sat perfectly in a recess on top of my battery. I covered it with some carbon fibre effect wrap, so that it doesn't resemble a length of pipe.

cutting the full length throttle is a brilliant idea! Using full length is dangerous. Just placing my hand on the handle with a slight grip triggers the power, I had the bike rushing out a couple of times before changed to a thump throttle.

Fab video, I went the other way and made all the wires longer, that way i could make a small hole in the bikes frame and had ALL the wires run inside the frame. Took some messing with a small nut on the end of the wire and a magnet to move it along the poles from the outside but all the wires have vanished, hidden inside away from sight and the rain.

There is a difference when using an aluminum frame bike and a steel frame bike. The aluminum frame will have wider material where the rear axle is installed at the hub drive than the metal frame. You could find your rear hub motor axle does not have enough threads left when you install torque arm after tightening down the axle nut on either side. The metal frame has thinner material in that area so if you install torque arm or drop out you have more material to work with on the axle shaft.

You certainly can and should use the gears on your bike, you'll get the most out of the motor, and it'll run more efficiently, gears help it along.. As in you'll make it uphill faster.. It's not always about "just give more throttle" .. You won't necessarily go any faster or farther giving it more throttle could easily burn the motor too..

My spokes had come lose causing 2 spoke nuts to disconnect (self-unscrew) and they now rattle inside tire. other spokes become lose causing the tire to be very very wobbly, i have resolve this sort of but the tire is now longer 100% straight.

A 250 watt motor done this exact same thing to my spokes over the course of a year and a half. Cracked the frame at the holes in three points. The rims typically just arent built for that power. Letalone 1000watts. Go to the shop and get the wheel straightened. And buy a spare rim to reattach your motor to. just incase your current ones crack over time causing your current rim to fail completely.

You just need to buy a battery that matches your ebike kit. Ie 48v 10Ah 1000w. The more Ah = longer distance between charging. If you look on eBay most battery ads will show the watts that battery suits.

Search eBay for sensor cut off switch. I don’t recommend using the gear cassette that came with the kit. You never use gears again once the kit is installed. I just put a single speed 12 tooth cog on the back with a chain tensioner and removed all the gears and cables. Good luck with your project.

@Mikey2hands

@@Tantium yep better top end speed. The motor soaks up the extra torque as you start to pedal. Then as you go faster you can still get traction with the low gearing combined with the motor power. I’ll make a better video explaining this when I build my wife an Electra Townie ebike.

Hello. I am a complete novice when it comes to bikes, but do I need a motor that comes with the same number of gears as my bike currently has? I own a Trek Marlin 5 with an 8gear freehub( I think, might be a freewheel? ) cassette. Most of these kits come with a 7 speed sprocket, would I have to make adjustments to my drivetrain to accommodate losing the 8th gear? For example a shorter chain, or adjusting the shifter etc? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
@Mikey2hands
@Mikey2hands 2 жыл бұрын
Yes if you want to retain your gears it would be easier to do it on a 7 speed bike. However you may be able to keep the same derailure and replace the gear shifter to a 7 speed. Personally I like to remove all gears and put a single speed cog on the ebike wheel as you will find you don’t use the gears once it is motorised. I’m about to upload a new vid for my wife’s bike that will explain this.

The black paint on alluminium controller looks good. But works worse. Alluminium works as cooler, and black paint attracts heat - so the color is contraproductive. And one more thing - the rear wheel pours water directly on it, so you need some "rain shield" on wheels (however water could add some coolink on controllers surface, it makes eletcric contacts wet)...

Hows u get ur throttle work without a sensor
@Mikey2hands
@Mikey2hands Жыл бұрын
Throttle doesn’t need a sensor. You are thinking of pedal assist which is different.

@@Mikey2hands thats what i mean hows it work without the pedal assist sensor, because I unplugged mine thinking it would be like rev and go but nothing happened
@Mikey2hands

It will work fine with just throttle and no pedal assist connected. Maybe check brake cut off cables, they may be preventing throttle from engaging.

Yeah I’m not sure how accurate those speedo apps are. I think they judge speed by GPS signal so may be a bit off. Do you think I was going faster or slower?

Probably don't use that exact battery. Doesnt list the battery chemistry or cell manufacturer. Look for a 48V battery with Samsung, Panasonic, or LG cells, ideally with LiFePO4 chemistry, though those can be a bit expensive.

Dang, I came here to see how to get my derailleur back on but it looks like you just decided to delete yours entirely. That might work for an aussie living in the flattest continent on the planet, but most people do need gears, lol. If full twist throttles were that dangerous then you probably wouldn't find them on every single motorcycle, either.
