I was told In my ecdis course that S in the SENC means system. This system is the maker (brand.. or the software of the brand) like furuno, transas etc who use the ENC (database) and display to us the information on ECDIS screen. So the SENC is the database(ENC) used by system to display info on ecdis.

Sir... Why we are doing great circle, mercator sailing calculations? In ECDIS it will show the distance automatically. Then why we are doing these calculations. In ship at what situation we can use these calculations...

These days you have ECDIS, but many years back ships didn't have them. Even the GPS was not very accurate. So, we used manual calculations.

We are doing because MMDs need more decades to upgrade themselves.

Nice explanation sir. What i understood is that ENC is a software file that need to be installed to generate SENC. Similar like if we have WhatsApp Apk file in our memory card and once we install it we can access to chats ,calls etc. So whatsapp apk file = ENC and What we get after installation= SENC . Right sir?
