I have one of these in a pot and it's grown about 2-3" tall in the last 3 years and slightly wider. It's a real beauty, never to disappoint.😊

Good stuff as always, Johnny. It's always very interesting to see how James does things, as a few of his methods fly in the face of the "Conventional Internet Wisdom" that the social media hivemind propagates, and there's absolutely no arguing with his results. Particularly his lithops soil mix, some people would have a heart attack to know how much organic material he uses, and like I said, absolutely no arguing with his results. Now, I've got some West Rainbow leaves that, like James said, aren't coming up variegated pups. So, in that instance, are they just normal PVNs? On the bright side, I've got three Black Prince variegates out of a batch of 25 or so leaves! Very exciting.

The West Rainbow leaves can result in a range of things, a VERY VERY small chance it will be a West Rainbow. However I asked James and he said with the paler variegates you just really don't know. It may be something great, or nothing at all worth talking about. And then, will it be a stable variegate, often they can revert after a while.... And 3 Black prince is a good result. James is a commercial grower as well as a collector, so he needs to push his plants at the start, he also has be VERY careful with watering and drainage. As for social media we do follow a few, however don't comment. So maybe we agree with you....

Hi Johnny, regarding the fertilizer, you said Dolomite, Slow Release and "White Stuff". Please what is the white stuff? Interesting the layering of the two mixes am going to try that.

I'm about to behead my PVN, which I have done once before but last time the remaining stem did not survive. This time I hope the remaining stem survives & produces a new rosette, but the stem currently has air roots- should I keep these air roots on the remaining stem or with the head to be transplanted? If kept with the head will these help it to root faster/give it a better chance of successfully rooting?

Thank you for this video. For the first time, I spotted an E. Rainbow that looks close to mine (Rainbow silk variegated at 8:31). I've recently acquired some and after some time, I noticed a change in the texture of the leaves. Instead of being smooth, waxy and more flexible (can bend a bit), the new leaves are more rough, thick and stiff. They feel like the leaves of an E. Beyonce. I am wondering if this is due to my home environment. My succulents get 12 hours of growlights (grown indoors), water every 10 days, good ventilation and temperature between 20 to 30 degrees. Other than this change happening to the new leaves, the plants are very healthy. My PVNs, on the other hand, are thriving very well. I am not too sure if you will be able to read this. I wonder if anyone else has the same experience. Please do share and tell me what you think is happening. Thank you.

Not sure on this one, are the leaves still showing the colour they should be ? I will ask James Lucus next time I see him.

I have acclimatised some PVNs to extreme sun exposure in my garden. They go the most amazing light peachy pink and almost look artificial. Very healthy and alive, just stressed over time to give the colour.

Wish we had a video of that to include, what climate zone are you in, might like to try it. And how long did it take to acclimatise them ?

@@johnnyAGardening I’m in the west coast of turkey. It works with very young ones and quite mature. They go from a vibrant pale purple first and then pink. I can achieve it in one summer and still have them look chubby. I also manage to grow quite a few west rainbows from leaves (carefully). It’s mid spring here and already very hot and I often just don’t have space to keep everything in morning sun or with some degree of shade so it’s more out of necessity sometimes. Love your videos. Australia has some really interesting imports, I’m jealous! :)
