Thanks for watching.This blower runs okay but its got a few problems which we'll tackle in this video. First is the carb leaks fuel which makes quite a mess. The other problem is the kill switch doesn't work. If you haven't tried one a backpack blower is worth their money.

Putting the air filter in before adjusting the carb, can really affect the operation, to the better. It gives just a bit of drag on the intake. Those older Echos are definitely worth repairing, I’d fix it.

I bought this exact blower in 2001, i live on a heavily wooded lot and use it all the time, leaves, driveway, garage, weekly lawn cutting, blowing off the car after I wash it, I run the piss out this thing. Once a year I clean the original spark plug, and blow out the original air filter, that's it! 19 years later and it runs better than the day I bought it. Yep, why buy a new one?

Nice. Running your blower all year long keeps it in working order. Most only use it for leaves and that's it

Yes, I would replace the switch. But, first I would try to squirt some WD-40 into the switch and work it back and forth. If you're lucky the problem might just be dirty or oxidized contacts.

The older echo machines are great. Double rings on the piston. Late 90's early 2K's. Even the weedwackers are great. They have more metal than plastic. That switch is usually pretty pricy for what it is. Good fix. Happy New Year brother.

I have 3 Echo devices and I love 'em. WD-40 was originally created to dry out electrical contacts which were wet, but it can resurrect a corroded electrical switch by saturating the switch and working it back and forth rapidly. Use a couple of jump wires with alligator clips and connect the multi meter and set for continuity. Mine makes a loud noise noise when there's continuity, and the switch may be able to be saved. And the carbs for these engines are cheap on Amazon or Crap bay - 10-15 dollars.
@plumkey197

If the switch is beyond repair, I would fix it. When air flow is restricted on a running engine, it can't be good for the top compression ring on the piston and may accelerate wear over time (similar to running with a dirty air cleaner, but worse). The air restriction will cause the top compression ring to expand on the downward stroke and cause wear to the rings and cylinder wall. One option is just put enough fuel in the machine to get the job done and let it run dry.

The “quality “ of the spark plug makes me wonder about the quality of the other parts. I bought a carb which came with an air filter, fuel filter, 2 bulbs and fuel lines for $14. The adjusting screws didn’t function. A waste of money. I bought OEM and the motor rain perfectly from the second pull.

I'd fix it because I'm not too keen on killing one with a choke. The 230 was left with the choke closed and was probably killed like that and I believe it was almost stuck because of being left that way with a fresh charge of gas in the combustion chamber for a long time. Looks like the oil would've prevented it but it was vERY sluggish in moving whan I cranked it over the 1st time but quickly limbered up. And it revs up about like this one did so I'm leaving the adjustments alone for the time being. I worked on an OLD Echo backpack that a homeowner had but never used. I got it running every year but it just sat. Thanks and Blessings!

As you probably already know without saying, I would fix it. Furthermore, if Radio Shack was still around, I would purchase a momentary push button switch and wire it in. I much prefer to push a button, kill the engine, and have it automatically reset. I have pulled the rope too many times only to realize that I failed to turn the switch on.

I have an trimmer that i need to fix for a friend. It will not start when hot was the problem back when my friend was running it , is has been sitting for years. Everything is fine exsept that the carb is leaking and it wil not start because there is to much fuel (that is what i think) i cleaned the carb. The metering diaphragm is not really flexibel. But because its hard to find cheap parts here i just put it back in. Stil leaks. I wanted to ask you if the diaphragm is the problem, i just want to be sure. Or if it is a other problem. ( the trimmer is a mccullogh 310 cabrio or something like that)
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Leo's for the question and giving as much information about the problem as possible. the answer is no, it's not necessarily the metering diaphragms fault for the leak. Unfortunately if it was mine, I would try to find a new carb, but the problem Is that carb is very difficult to find, and if you do find it, it will be expensive.

Hi #HomeGarage. Would like to ask you a question. I’ve got the same issue with my recently purchase Stihl BR 420 C Magnum. I noticed it was leaking fuel from the air box. So I removed the housing and filter, then cranked to observe the issue. It only leaks/blows back into the housing when the throttle is applied. Not while idling. I’ve already bought a walbro carb rebuild kit to install... but was wondering if it may just need the Low or High jets leaned out some to cut back on some of that excess fuel that’s blowing outward. Or should I just try the rebuild kit and hope it’s the diaphragm. Thanks in advance for any advice. Brian
