Aluminum chain link fence ties work perfect for pulling it out, I would buy a pack when you pick up the fuel filter

will having an old fuel filter cause the weedeater to turn off?

I'm no expert but in my experience yes having a dirty filter will cause it to shut off as well as with my model (this one) I have found that if I invert it too much or lets say try to make it into an edger if I don't have enough gas in it it will also shut off, I have a corner lot with a lot of edging and weedeating to do that's why I went out an purchased an edger as well so I don't have any issues.
