Thx man, so helpful tutorial. FYI, I just didn’t have that upgraded hose that is connected to the master cylinder but the default one (hard metal). To close the screw on it, you need to push the hose down a bit hard to make sure it sits perfect and then you’ll be able to close the screw. 😊

Had a neighbour's '84 Peugeot once, with a very stiff brake pedal, with weak braking. After a thorough diagnosis, I realized that the (both) Rubber brake line hoses, to the front calipers were badly restricted...almost closed up. The owner had, out on the road, used ATF in lieu of proper brake fluid. ATF, as you know, does NOT like rubber. Swells it, badly. I spent the weekend replacing ALL the rubber bits in the system. Initially the price I quoted to him was thought to be "too much". So he said. After making some calls & visiting a few shoppes, he returned to me, with tears (almost)...ready to kiss my...ahem...hand.

That's very interesting about the ATF! Smart in a pinch I guess, but definitely should have flushed it as soon as possible. Not surprised he didn't like the quotes from other shops! Hah. Cool story. :)

Nice work with the syringe. I will have to remember that. You can adjust the master rod after bleeding. Adjust it just long enough to be able to push in the clutch fork by hand.
@802Garage
@802Garage 4 жыл бұрын
It works surprisingly well! Yep, I still need to do a final bleed and adjustment. Right now the clutch fully disengages for sure, but the pickup point is still close to the floor. May make another video on just that. DSM Billy just informed me it's better to reverse bleed these clutches anyways, so I may be trying that. Thanks again!

I’ve replaced both the slave and master in mine and I’m still not getting any pressure in my clutch! I’ve checked off every thought and reason but still nothing. Slave moves about a quarter inch, slave also doesn’t retract after I bled it externally! Maybe thinking I got a new slave that’s bad? I’m so stuck! Any thoughts??? This was all after replacing a new stage 3 clutch and throw out bearing as well. Once I took the slave off I was getting decent throw on the slave but it wouldn’t retract it would just stay and then pop eventually because of it not retracting.
@802Garage
@802Garage 4 жыл бұрын
Getting a bad slave new is something I have heard of. If you bought it local, might try to exchange. When I was out with the BoostedBoiz they actually got a bad brand new master for Hondaru and were really confused for hours. Otherwise, are you still using the stock line? You could have air trapped in the accumulator perhaps. I'm not super familiar with it. You could also try "bench bleeding" the master, basically how I did it in the car. Also make sure you bleed the slave by pushing the rod in by hand with the bleeder open, then closing the bleeder and letting it back out. This makes sure no air is trapped around the piston. Sorry I can't give a definite diagnosis, but it sounds like exactly how mine was acting with the bad master. Good luck!

Hey that's awesome! That's how long mine sat. Hahaha. Def recommend Exedy unless you want to go OEM. I'll give you links for the cheapest I can find them. Master: amzn.to/3xCgLq8 ebay.us/M4fwUH Slave: amzn.to/3xz5Zkk ebay.us/HnSB8z Also if you don't already have one, getting a new line will save hassle and remove the annoying inline accumulator: ebay.us/YHiJbv That's pricey though so if you want to get all three in one check this out saves a little: ebay.us/2hxGnZ I verified those parts with the Exedy website, BTW. If you do want links for OEM Nabco parts I can find them too. :)

@802Garage

Sounds like a vacuum leak potentially or an idle control issue. I'm not sure what sort of IAC valve the GSX uses. The first thing I would look for though is a vacuum leak.

Could just be trapped air, could be a bad master or bad slave off the shelf which does happen. Try "bench" bleeding the master and making sure you bleed the slave by pushing the rod in with the bleeder open, closing the bleeder, and letting the rod back out. Good luck and thanks for the comment!

Nice video 👍🏼. I have 2 Gsx and 1 Gst. Anyways I'm changing the master on the Gst unfortunately I stumbled to a annoying problem/: The metal line thats attached to the master is locked in place and wont come out. I tried spraying it and all and still ended up stripping the nut... Would you recommend just cutting the line? It's my first time changing the master on my cars. I would hate to do a crucial mistake I mean I already messed up the nut anyways lol... Would cutting the line be an option and would it be simple to still attached it? THANK YOU
@802Garage
@802Garage 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The quick answer is yes cutting the line is an option and as you said it's best to replace it anyways. That said if you are in a pinch now, a Vice-Grips would likely be able to help you loosen it. If you want to save the line I'd wire brush the threads, spray penetrating lube, and then get it to start spinning with locking pliers. You'll likely have to reinstall with locking pliers as well. Alternatively you could grind some fresh flats on the nut. My recommendation would be to cut the line, remove the master, and replace the entire line with stainless. It removes some added complexity from the system and really just makes it easier in general. Plus people say it improves the feel of the system. Arguably looks cool too. You could either get just the line or get a slave and master kit. Here are some links to help you out. is this Eclipse Turbocharged ? I ask because I see something on the exhaust header side that looks a lot like it - as I said - I am dedicating quite some time to the Geography of the Engines. I never went through this, but I understood the feeling on the pedal when it comes to the returning force...and of course, when the clutch cylinder is not working, leaking or whatever, it just doesnt push correctly, I can sense it from here as well actually...I know the feeling, it didnt happen to me but I understood how annoying that is... quick update _ for the first time ever...I saw a Chevrolet Kodiak here!
@802Garage
@802Garage Жыл бұрын
Oh wow Kodiaks are rare even here. Yes, the Eclipse GSX is turbocharged and all wheel drive! The Eclipse GS-T was also turbocharged, but front wheel drive. The GS and RS were non-turbo with a Chrysler engine and were front wheel drive. The Spyder could come with non-turbo or turbocharged Mitsubishi engines and were front wheel drive. That's primarily info for the second gen Eclipse. DSM in general were interesting cars. You may or may not know they also came as the Eagle Talon and Plymouth Laser. Lots more trim levels to keep track of especially if you go back to the first gen! This car has the legendary 4G63 engine, same as the Evo until the X model.

I have a quart of eastmans rust reformer that was 45 for a quart that has good reviews but I wanna get a compressor and spray gun first as I’ve read once you open it and expose it to air you’re limited in time to use it. You should do a video about it, would be nice to find a usable solution as my truck has surface rust but no rot yet

What keeps you motivated? I mean why spend so much time with a rust bucket(no offense) I personally know how much you can get attached to a car, but sometimes it's not worth spending the money.
@802Garage
@802Garage 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, well obviously not enough since I take such long breaks working on it! Hah. I guess for me it's a personal quest. It's about testing my skills and perseverance. It's about showing people that they can do what they want even if a ton of people tell you it isn't worth the time and effort. It won't cost me a lot of money to fix rust, and it will help me develop new skills and knowledge. Plus I get to learn more about the car in general fixing it and it's not like I have money for a much nicer chassis. These cars are also getting rarer in true GSX form and if people can restore a Mustang with nothing left but some frame rails we need to start treating import classics like they matter too. Plus when it is up and running proper it's a great story and something truly my own. So there is no one answer I guess, but it is a lot about having fallen in love with the car while it sat there. I just couldn't part it out anymore. That and probably above all else just proving to myself that I can do it. It is absolutely not worth much money, but it honestly hasn't cost me that much. It isn't "worth" the time and effort either, but most car pursuits aren't. They're about the journey I guess. There are also probably some parallels with my life about coming from very little and wanting to make it all better. Always having rust buckets and not having the means to make them better. That's a whole other avenue though. Hope that answers your question!
