I have a 200ah with 400w 24v solar panels system and I plugged into the Ecoflow Wave's solar port with adapter it allows 11 hours of runtime while having that small 2 hours something battery pack. You just set it on timer for 8 hrs and the 4000 btu will dropped it down to 3000- 3500 btu which allows it to run for 11 hours.

I don’t have the solar panels, but when I’m using it, I’m getting 3.5-4 hrs of use on the lowest setting with the lowest temp and using the vent hose attachment works excellent to cool me down quickly. It worked awesome during the blackouts I had in my area, but I have to be honest; it's mainly for keeping my dog cool.

A product I'd buy and which nobody has ever thought to produce, would be a dual-fuel portable AC. It would look like a generator or welding unit, but have an engine sized perfectly to the power requirement of the direct-driven compressor; and a small generator coil to handle the control and fan needs. Obviously it would run outside, with a hose to deliver the chilled air inside. Since EcoFlow knows how to make dual-fuel generators and AC units, they could crank one of these out in short order. The beauty of such a unit is that no provision need be included for a varying output, and there is no power conversion loss. A tiny (and quiet) engine would be adequate for a 5000 btu unit.

Thank you so much for the honest review. I just moved out of my house and drive a truck and plan to try to live out of my truck a little more than I used to. Cooling the sleeper cab without idling the engine was one of my biggest concerns, so it was reassuring to hear that it sort of made sense for my situation. I am thinking exactly of what you said. The most practical way to used the Wave is with a Delta Max or Delta pro. There's no other unit in it's price range that does the job. Your alternatives in a power outage would be a gas generator with with a small 5000 BTU ac air conditioner.

Thanks for your honest review, and for acknowledging that it IS practical in a few situations. For me, keeping my dog cool in my minivan when I have to run into a store makes it worthwhile. I run it off a Delta Max. It keeps us cool on hot nights at campgrounds that have shore power, or I can set it on Eco mode and run it easily for 6-7 hours at around 73 degrees when camping off-grid. So for our specific uses, it works very well. I do wish it was cheaper! And smaller...

I got mine a month ago with the add-on battery. For air conditioning I get 2-hours max on a medium flow setting and maybe an hour on max AC, then battery dies, and I have to plug it into my inverter and charge it that way from my 100ah battery. so my 100ah battery gets drained, which then I have to drive for 2-3 hours or let me truck idle 2-3 hours just to replace my drained power that went to the ecowave. so 2 hours of max AC, and then I'm driving or charging my house battery on idle just to keep the ecoflow useful. Solar is out of the question. I use a 175 watt flex panel from renogy with 10awg copper and here in Socal /Los angeles we have sunny skies all through this past august, and the most I've been able to trickle charge is about 10-15% power charge to the machine. Its not worth it. I use the fan on the ecoflow which doesn't seem to pull any battery power at all, but again, I can buy a volnado at bestbuy and get crazy fan speeds with that for $40. Not worth it

I just use a dual hose AC unit thats on wheels. Using the low power one that has about 100sqft coverage. When the power goes out. I flip on while connected to my 200ah lithium battery 12v inverter charger system. I have a similar inverter charger system I made off of a single lead acid battery 65ah 12v system connected to my fridge. Fridge last for about 6 hours on battery power. AC lasts for about 5-8 hours but on eco mode as always extends it to about 10-12 hours. When I know the power outage is gonna last for a long time. We prioritize our fridge and hook the smaller battery system up to fans around the home. I do plan to continue to upgrade these systems. My large 12v inverter charger charges at 50aph so in 4 hours the battery is fully charged. I wanted to go 24v but at the time. It was not in our budget.

Richard, when I saw the title I was pretty sure that you had purchased a plastic housing fan unit with a tray that you dump some ice cubes into. My aunt had one of those about 58 years ago. Thing never worked. But wow! You spent a ton of money. Me, being a poor boy I opted for a USB fan, that works quite well actually, with a battery pack to keep that thing charged and a fold out solar panel to keep that thing charged. My first, last and only foray into the world of solar. Guaranteed to keep at least 6 square inches of the moist body surface a degree or two cooler than the ambient temp. The battery actually has a solar panel on it....but you can't put the thing in hot sunlight without risking melting the whole thing.

but you cant say that though when the solar charge barely adds 10-15% charge in a 5 hour window. Im in Orange County, and have been an ecowave owner for a month now... and it was dead of summer August, bright blue skies, and sun allll day. We're having a heatwave right now, not a cloud in the sky and I had it trickle charging off my soloar 175 watt renogy flex panel with 10awg copper wiring. it soaked up 15 hours of sunlight and only added 12% battery . 12% battery will get you about 5 minutes of air conditioning on average.

anything new can be buggy, just takes time to work them all out. They released a Gas generator last year and now they are about to start shipping a new version that is duel fuel. So who knows if they will make any quality adjustments or any other changes in the future. A lot of people are having good success with them. Most seems to be using them for van conversions, to cool off a van that they travel in. For you, keep in mind that these can't even cool off a garage. They are only rated for 86sf space. So it would do noting for a larger party tent etc.

You raise good points and I an understand why the unit is likely not relevant for you specifically. On a positive note for the unit, I own a plane and live in HOT Arizona. Flying in the summer used to be, well, not as pleasant as it could be. While adding an aftermarket air conditioning system to the plane is an option, it is hard to justify $20k+ in mods and paperwork so I and several other pilots have been looking for options for years to have something to at least take the edge off while we are flying around. Several people have tried other brands over time only to find they, in a word, suck. EcoFlow Wave however is probably at this point the best option bar none of the units one could pick for this application. It is portable so NO paperwork needed, enough cooling power to actually keep the cockpit comfortable, and with a 24v battery like I have in the plane, if I hook that into the unit's solar input connector, I can eek out 5+ hours at full speed before the battery is spent and the unit does a soft power down. Since most of my cross country flights are under 3 hours, I am seriously good to go. If it is a long cross country flight, I go high where it is cool enough for vents to work - or - I can dial back the temp/fan speed on the EcoFlow Wave and boom, good to go there as well. Anyway, long story short, MY application is one where the unit is spot on!

Hi flyAZ: Do you take the intake air from the outside or the inside of your aircraft? And where do you exhaust the hot air to?
@aliciatopolnycky373
@aliciatopolnycky373 Жыл бұрын
I'm following for this answer-- I'm considering buying one to replace my broken car AC so that it is cool *WHILE I am driving-* In my dying car I'm reluctant to sink $600+ on replacing my AC and in all likelihood the car will break down/be totaled soon. So, I'm thinking I could buy a portable unit that outlives the car and I can keep using for tent & car camping trips in the future. But I have not seen ANYONE talk about the feasibility of this machine while driving/moving (exhaust pipe is an issue). So curious how it works in a moving aircraft.
@TimToussaint
@TimToussaint Жыл бұрын
@@aliciatopolnycky373 Hi Alicia. I contacted EcoFlow support on this matter. They say it is OK in a driving car to exhaust the warm air through a side window. They provide a panel (incl with the Wave 2) with the cut-outs (for air in, and air out) with the correct dimensions to fit the equally provided air ducts. That panel is in all generality smaller than your window and you need to fit it into a somewhat wider panel that has the dimensions of your car side window opening. Support explicitly said that it is OK to use while driving, provided the openings are not directly in the direction of movement. (ie, they can't have ram air working against the exhaust flow of the Wave). With a side window they don't see a problem. FlyAZ didn't respond yet how they are doing this in an aircraft. I further discussed the matter with my aircraft maintenance organisation. Given the much higher speeds of aircraft (compared to US highway traffic) and for some other practical reasons, we wouldn't recommend using a side door/window exhaust of an aircraft. Even if the duct opening is perpendicular to the direction of flight, the passing air might still create strong positive or negative pressure (vacuum) that the Wave has to fight against. Much better to exhaust the hot air into the rear fuselage (tail section) of the airplane.

So am I understanding correctly that it would not work for both tubes to be poking out of my back window (I have a window on my trunk door), because this is in the direction of/on the same parallel as travel? Or does the problem only arise when the exhaust is facing the oncoming wind of forward movement (aka it’s poking through the windshield), where the two forces of air blowing are directly oppositional.

Its not battery powered any more! Was about to pull the trigger on this a couple months ago then the sales rep got back to me and they told me the "add on battery" was discontinued. Its native voltage is 24v, so my 12v lifepo4 batteries arent going to do it. Id have to use an AC inverter to power it so at that point why not use a home portable AC?

Window units takes a lot of power. Once the compressor kicks in from the window unit, the watts hits 1.5k. That’s for one AC wall unit. Better to use the delta cable and run the Wave with the pro using DC power

Its all about the watts for some people...Hobotech does an awesome review... It aint easy to get 4000BTU using only 300+ watts. I think it makes sense for small rigs, who are conservative minded to begin with. Other more efficient units start at double price... This unit doesnt make sense for anyone who isnt lookin to power by DC through Delta Pro. The small battery is redundant for the most part...

Claims to have a one year warranty, but if they aren’t replying to your emails then I guess the only thing you can do is a credit card chargeback. There’s an Amazon video of it getting 106 degrees on the plastic body which is wild.

I understand your concern on the total cost of such a setup but the Delta Pro is currently the most practical portable solar generator that you can buy. Got the early bird special at nearly half off of the retail price and received it early. Its worth every cent. The Ecoflow Wave looks good ON PAPER but some reviewers have said otherwise. My portable air conditioner is great but uses more than double the watts that the Ecoflow Wave does and its larger. It moves using small wheels that are built into it. I never had a problem lifting it when it needs to be drained. I doubt its 50 pounds but it could be (I don’t mind the weight of the Delta Pro either. I lift it fairly easy). The Ecoflow Wave would be best for a small room or for traveling. The price is a bit high for a portable air conditioner but it works well with the Delta Pro along with any other portable solar generator should the need arise. A 5 hour solar panel charge for the add on battery is good but not great. It would be mire practical to just attach it to the Delta Pro and use solar panels to charge the Delta Pro’s batteries instead of the add on Ecoflow Wave battery. Its still a great setup but I’d like to see an Ecoflow Wave 2 with a bigger and better add on battery (let’s say a 1200W Life PO4 battery) that can take 400W of solar panels or more for a 3 hour solar charge.

I was a nomad for 1 year and a half, living in my SUV traveling across the US. I bought the ecoflow river 600 power station and 1 month after I started my road trip, the unit died. I got a replacement shipped to my friends but I had to pay to send the damaged one back to them. A month later the same thing happened. I decided not to continue with them mainly because I noticed that ecoflow is a Chinese device labeled in California with a really bad reputation in the van life community. You will realized this when you talk to their customer service. Ecoflow is like renogy. If you are a nomad you know what I am talking about. I went with Jackery with no problems at all. I am not a nomad anymore but I still use it and the Jackery keeps going with no issues. I will stay away from ecoflow brand and all of their devices.

If you run the unit off dc and in eco mode, it is very efficient. Just set the temp to 73-75 degrees and once the unit cools the space to that set temp, it will switch on and off between cooling and fan mode. Not sure why you are ranting.

He completely missing the point. It’s small portable ac split design. The ecoflow wave 2 while improved has the same issues. Max cooling/heating for 1-2 hours. Eco cooling for 4-8 hours. Prefect for campers, rvs, and yes tent camping. Running a regular portal ac unit needs like 1800-2200 watt generator which need gallon of gas about 2-4 hours. It’s way noisy. Being tent camping for two months by Ren Faire in Texas. Keep you tent or camper cool and less humid was huge difference sleeping at night. If you get something like this then you still need to pair several batteries or generator to run this at max cooling all night. Looks a house room portable ac unit is max 12000 btus with duel vent hoses ie spilt ac. It’s about 1800-2000 watts of an 120v ac plug. You off need bigger generator to handle that. Either way neither setups are for walking hiking camping. They are glamping or some where off grid where you can drive up and carry or wagon to your setup site. For weekend or week or few weekends. Or like small tiny house or work shed or hunting cabin without power. Yes you pay more for dc base cooling device. I’m guessing a small window ac unit goes for about $200-300 for 3000-5000 btu. That still going need 1800-2000 watts. This wave and wave 2. Uses 300-500 watts. It’s designed not for home cooling unless it tiny room or just supplementing center air and that room that gets too hot.

I agree that the "truth must be told" - but I don't think this video does that. It seems to me a bit unfair. Firstly, it is a difficult problem that Ecoflow is trying to solve, and the problem is bridging an energy gap with air conditioners, and from my viewpoint nobody does it better. What you are doing here is comparing what you get with your fantasy, but let's get real, what you want is maybe 20 years in the future so don't complain if something can't do what no other product on the market can do either. Secondly, there are several use cases that it will solve very nicely, for example to cool a small room or UV while plugged in - and continue to work for a period when power is out. The fact that you have configured your delta pro setup to have no extra room to power this device is just your particular problem because you have scaled your setup without any wiggle room. I have quite some spare capacity with my Delta pro setup, so could add another 5 hours to the 2 hours of the wave, and that gives a very respectable 7 hours. Thirdly, if you have the delta pro, what's the problem with using the 400W panels to charge your wave via the delta pro ? Fourthly, and perhaps this is the biggest point - everything you are complaining about was not discovered when you got the item in your hands - it's all there in the specs for everyone to read. So what on earth do we need this video for if it does not say anything about experiences you have had with it ? What you talk about is readable by anyone in the specs. I thought this video would teach me something, but I didn't really learn anything, so no new truths here.

Have had it running for 5 weeks in a RV bedroom hooked to to a Delta Max 2000 & Extra battery, 800 watts of solar, daily temps in the high 90s/high humidity and works like a champ. Two things I agree with you is the battery that can be attached to the bottom is useless given the < 3 hrs run time. Not sure how one would find that setup useful. Also the truckers rave about it and pays for it self within 3 months. The rest of your vid seemed out of touch with my experience. Correct me if wrong but portable AC built with a dc compressor are not abundant. I believe the wave is designed to work with the EcoFlow line of Solar Gens using the DC power which saves a lot of current / more efficient then using the AC option.

power consumption is your gripe with this?... its an AC, excuse my french but no shit. Not unless some scientific breakthrough is made this is exactly how every AC operates and anyone with common sense understands this. Sounds to me like you had a plan you wanted to use this completely off grid and if that's the case you need to figure out a solution with extra batteries and solar arrays which are being charged during use so you can flip-flop batteries, so it's really not the AC that's at fault here. I thought you were gonna come out with some hard facts for reasons not go get this but this is all stuff anyone could grasp at just knowing its an "compressor AC Unit"

Avoid this ripoff piece of crap at all costs. First off, I’m a huge fan of my Ecoflow Delta which is why I tried this out. Pro: The power actually cuts on with it and it’s smaller than a real portable ac. Cons: Maybe 3 hrs of cooling it doesn’t trip and give an error msg. The battery can’t be charged separately from the unit. So you have to carry nearly 100 lbs to charge it. Nearly 2 grand. I have a $200 portable 5000 BTU AC that actually works. Even without the battery why pay 1200 for a 4,000 BTU to run on AC power. For 12 hrs of run time you have to spend almost 4 grand I spent around 300 and built an ice chest cooler with blowers, oil cooling radiators, and water pumps that out performs this crap.
