Per the eggs, put the onions in first to caramelize a bit, then stir the eggs in the pan immediately with salt and pepper. Let that congeal- the, cheese to melt and lastly the tomatoes. You don't want to cook the tomatoes down in the eggs. The stove looks very nice.

Great comments around the sand for regulation and safety. Will ensure my next fire will have sand.

Nice stove. Have you tried a tiny bit of foam in front of your microphone to cut out the wind noise?

Note 1: The bucket containing the sand does not need to be made of metal. Note 2: A bucket of sand is a sensible thing to have handy whenever fire is being used. Also, if you needed to throw sand over the stove for any reason, it will not crack the hot cast iron the way water would do.

The flames on both sides are coming out of the front of the combustion chamber and certainly compromise efficiency. It's not how a rocket stove is supposed to function. Was this just a "learning curve" problem on giving it the proper amount of fuel? Or, do the plates on top also alter efficiency since rocket stoves you cook right over the exposed flame.

AWESOME!! I love it!

Heat regulation is done by altering the size of the fire under the pot. Turning the burner "down" is easy and quick... simply take a burning brand or two out of the fire and plunge the burning ends into a bucket of sand kept by for the purpose. The partially consumed stick of wood can be left in the bucket until required to turn up the heat again, or otherwise provide more fuel.

And/or closing the lower door(s) to decrease air flow to reduce heat and create coals for simmering.

it would be even hotter without the cast iron plates on

What can I get this stove?

These types of stoves create challenges around heat regulation beyond driving a rolling boil. Using the damper to obtain target stove top temperature will be a required skill set. This model requires you to work in front of the fire opening, whereas single burner models can permit cooking from the side or rear. Stove pipe supports use within cabin or canvas tent (with vent flap). Hex bolts for pipe further reduce the portability of stove. Like the green wood drying area. Thanks for the review.

This model isn't meant to be portable.

I would like to see a video of you attempting to clean the stove. As there is no ash catch, you could give yourself a very nice hernia trying to pick it up, turn it over and knock them out. If its not practical to clean, it simply is not a practical survival tool.

That's one of the things a shop vac is for, if you aren't without power.

Surely the ash will drop through the grate into the lower compartment where it can be lifted out with a small shovel via the lower doors....?

Is there an update? Is the stove still functioning?

Mike Nestle Im not sure about his but I have two of these stoves. One as a backup. Works fantastic for me. However I don't use long sticks hanging out the front. I chopped all my sticks, logs etc so they fit inside and I can close the hatch. Seems to retain heat a bit better for me. Mine are holding up great and cook very well. Works best if you give it about 10-15 minutes to fully heat up before cooking. If you have any questions about it I would be happy to answer them as best as I can.

@@johninwi3994 how is it performing now a few years on if you still have it and can you still use charcoal also
@johninwi39944 жыл бұрын
@@urbanmythfpv3121 It has held up perfect and still works very well but I have to be honest. I don't use it as a necessity. I use it as a fun way of cooking and as a backup method of cooking just in case. I kind of have an addiction to outdoor equipment, camping stuff, bushcraft, etc. I take very good care of my equipment. This stove is very heavy and kind of awkward for one person to handle. What I ended up doing was buying a stainless steel table with caster wheels like you see in restaurants. The table I got was the same size as the stove. This way I can wheel it around or bring it inside my garage if the weather is going to be bad to prevent it from rusting. It also raised the stove up at a better height for me. I don't think I can give you a great review because I am not somebody that uses it daily and has it in weathering conditions. I still have my second one sitting in the box brand new.
