I just had one of these installed, it got up to 700 degrees, since it's not real cold outside yet it made my kitchen really hot. I needed to let it cool down, so I opened the draft all the way up. It cooled down to 450, then started climbing again. Is that a problem? It scared me, so I shut off the pellet feed. I was afraid to leave it all night. Please give me more info so I can enjoy my new stove, not be afraid of it. Thank you!!!!

I'd be interested in the exiting flue temperature. If it's high then it would not be very efficient.
@spencerwilton5831
@spencerwilton5831 5 жыл бұрын
RICHLES01 that's what I was thinking! A lower flue temperature indicates most of the heat has been dispersed by the body of the stove. A high temperature just means all the heat is going up the chimney.

Is there any danger of gases coming out form the revision opening (00:45 here) or the pellet's tank due to pyrolysis? I mean when the stove is already started, these openings closed and the stove is working with nominal parameters. Is there possibility of any gasses coming to the room?

I've built similar models of gravity fed pellet stoves, and I have yet to have that kind of heat going out the chimney. I don't see the efficiency with that kind of flue temperature. It may throw heat, I'll give you that, but I see potential of getting more heat out of the stove and less up the flue pipe.

Not yet. My design has the tubes configured in an "S" shape. The bottom of the "S" is 30" long, then is goes straight up 8", to another horizontal tube, which is 20" long the up another 8" to another tube that is 20" long, so it looks like a big S. My burner is similar to the one found on the Riley tent stove pellet attachment (do a google search) and it took a long time to find a photo of just how it was designed, but I eventually found one on a forum that dealt with gravity fed pellet stoves. My stove burns around anywhere from 500 to 800 degrees, depending on how I adjust the exhaust air. When you open the air to the exhaust, it actually burns slower and cooler (like the Wiseway) so it's easy to control the heat. I'm going to add a thin sheet metal jacket 2" around the stove, like a wood furnace and use it to heat my garage and then my house when I get it done. It's amazing how the stove can produce that much heat and the exhaust is only 150 degrees and absolutely no smoke. I'll have to do a video on it soon.

@@mattfetter4123 I did some checking and sk8John was accurate. I could get no one to respond and the rocket stove, though a kewl idea, would NEVER pass safety laws satisfactorily to be used in a house. HOI would NEVER cover even "outbuilding" fire damage with one of these involved. Classic idea with huge "heat loss" flaws ... Better to build a "cob stove" or true Siberian baffle stove IF you can get your county and HOI to "buy" it.

I love the idea of having it be non-electric. The downside clearly, with any of these types of stoves (i.e., Rocket, etc.) is the maintenance. Flicking a switch is what we are used to; working to fill the Hopper, start her up, ash disposal, aesthetically not so handsome to look at, and gotta keep the kids and pets away. I love it but I don't love it. Sending 600 degrees up the chimney to get my house to 70 degrees is the environmental loss I need to also come to grips with. I do appreciate this review and demonstration. Thanks! - Tom
