Every single brand has issues with their engines, but I'm going to give you 5 things to do that will make your engine last forever! This will keep your engine healthy, running, and keep your overall cost of ownership lower.
We'll talk about rod bearings, timing chains, and other engine issues. Plus, I'll give you essentially an engines 101 video, or at least explain how lots of this works and why some simple car maintenance will keep you running forever.
One product I mentioned in today's video helps you to know if your brakes are too worn. Do a quick, easy check with this Brake Disc Digital Micrometer - amzn.to/3tvEUkp (Amazon Affiliate Link)

And his secret to success, Along with mine, I have NEVER blown a rotating assembly on the Chevys and Honda's that I have owned since 1997, Now I of course don't buy Turbo charged Vehicles Yet, But have run engines over 300,000 miles without burning mass amounts of oil, For example my 97 Z71 with over 250.000 miles never BURNED oil but I changed it ever 3000 miles due to the fact it only holds 5 qts, My K20C2 2 liter Honda engine in a Civic holds almost 5 Qts it gets changed every 5000 miles because of this oil Volume difference, Remember oil is Way cheaper than engines, I always wait to really push my engine's until it's fully warmed up, And try to run most below 4000 rpms Rarely 5000 unless to avoid a collision while getting up to speed even if the red line is almost 7000 rpms, Clean air oil and coolant keeps well built engine's running for Years just like how He CLEARLY explains here, If you're Vehicle starts leaking something have a Mechanic check what's going on Promptly, To save You Thousands in replacement parts a 🔑 point here, From a junk trans, rear end, transfer case or engine. 🔑 is Check the fluid levels frequently, It only takes a few minutes, Some repairs can Way TOO money and time, Hell now Some OEM parts are hard to find due to the Strikes, It's always better to play it safe rather than SORRY 💩 didn't have time to check things I hear alot, Maybe you can't or even want to drop $6,000 into a Vehicle not payed off yet.......Remember it's nice being able to own and operate a paid in full ride so to have time to Save lots of Cash for a Newer low mileage rocket ship. Yes I'm a Mechanic it's what I DO, I hate seeing 💩 completely destroyed from someone NOT giving a shit, I don't want to see it. 🇺🇸 YOU DON'T EITHER. peace 😁

@@ECPPAs I have said earlier, I bought a 2011 BMW X3/F25 30d with 246,000 km on the clock at the end of January. Except once in 12 years the oil have been changed exactly at every 30,000 km... The big problem is that the first owner dives 80-120,000 km (in my case at 125,000 km). In Sweden BMW and the like sell about 80 % as leasing cars to companies, and the employees can drive cheaper than if they buy the same car themselves. No one cares about what happens with the car after 150,000 km/ 90,000 miles. Most of the people that buy a car for themselves don't realise the that the dealers are lying about the importance of "suitable" maintenance. Maybe they think that BMW should know as they have made vehicles for 💯 years...

Mark, excellent video about caring for your car, especially now that most people can't afford to buy a new one. Folks should take more satisfaction out of keeping a good car running for a long time and keep it looking nice. I've got a 13 year old Mustang GT with 180,000 miles and the engine runs great. I still get compliments on my car 🙂. We'll show these OEM's. Drive it until the wheels fall off!😆

The oil doesn't really break down , it's the additives that do. If you get blow by from a turbo and fuel dilution changing the viscosity of the oil you need to change more often.

Good advice for any motorist and I practise these tips. I change out the oil at 15000km’s (10000 miles) per OEM recommendations. What I need to know is if the cars only does 5000km, is it necessary to change the oil annually ? Looking at our local market, the non-turbo sedan is DEAD! On the RPM range tip, this depends on the cars engine capacity. A V8 or V6 can be used within the 1500-2500rpm for city driving, but a 4 cylinder operates between 2500-3500rpm. It also depends on whether it’s a 1.8, 2.0 or 2.4L. The lower the cubic capacity, the more RPM one needs to pull away. Well done with this video Mark. These tip videos are informative

Another thing on oil, retailers tend to recommend & sell expensive oils like Castrol as being the best oil, not true. These recommendation often ignore the importance of viscosity, with most being thick and heavy for the everyday engine use. All my vehicles get fresh oil between the 3rd and 4th thousand mile of last change. Sometimes it was ready. Some of my friends and family think I'm paranoid mostly because the engines require 7 to 9 quarts each and it's fine. It keeps me under the hood which allows me to detect any developing problems. The 3 or 4 thousand also comes with every 6 months stipulation. I had changed the oil on my Explorer with less than a thousand miles on that cycle because it hit the 6 month mark.

Got rid of 1 car and down to sharing 1 with my wife. I think I will go back to leasing because I can turn it in prior to all the significant maintenance items that need to be performed. Hard to find honest and good mechanics. Too many times I was charged for services not performed or performed incorrectly. So, I don't want it to last forever! Yes, Sir regarding Oil Filters - those super filters kill engines too. This means restricting oil flow. Less lubrication less oil getting in the time Can imagine in cold weather a tight Oil Filter = almost nothing can get to the Filter only dirty oil goes to the bypass valve. This is killing your engine with pride I paid 50$ for Super Filter. 7500Km - 9000Km Oil change is much more important than those special filters Even the cheapest Filter protecting your engine is much better than those super one 1micron. The owner of the Car needs to know how and where he drives - only bumper-to-bumper - and change the oil frequntly - on the way from Vancouver to Montreal change as the manufacturers recommend.

Change your oil & filter every 5,000 miles or six-months, whichever occurs first. Oil & filters are cheap, engines and repairs are expensive (labor hours and parts).

@ECPP
@ECPP 9 ай бұрын
Haha, that’s fair, some people are sold on the lower maintenance approach. One thing to remember is a 200 dollar oil change twice a year works out to 4000 in 10 years whereas a serious premium goes to the EVs as the 4K is easily offset by pricey new technology.
