Having lived through the High River, Alberta 2013 flood I have so much sympathy for these people, many of whom have little to begin with. I just returned from Puerto López among many other places this week and already miss Ecuador. I may have to revisit my 4 year plan and cut it to 2! lol Take care!

Ripe cheese is cheese that is aged. Most cheese here is fresh and soft. No aging.

Thanks for watching. Yes it is still pretty quiet and safe. Guayaquil, although a problem area, it is only a few bad neighborhoods now and even they are much better. Keep watching but things continue to look positive.

You will be fine studying in Quito. I can understand why your parents would be concerned given all the international press. The trend is good however there will still be issues that hit the international press that are not reflective of day to day living.

Are there any talk about stopping the illegal migration of hundreds of thousands of foreigners from China, middle east, etc that lands withhout VISA requirements en Ecuador, and travel to Colombia, and from there to United States and Canada?

They have cut down significantly on border crossings into Ecuador . You now need a criminal check.
