Another cracking video. Much the most interesting bit to me is the footage about ‘the Bogotá affair’ in which Bobby Moore was accused of stealing a bracelet from a jeweller’s. Never seen that before. Fascinating.

England took a 28 man preliminary squad to the Western Hemisphere ahead of the World Cup. The players were numbered 1 through 28 with the low shirt numbers being worn by what amounted to England B for a match against an Ecuadorean club side that preceded this one. Thus the big name players who were likely to make the final 22 for Mexico ‘70 got the higher numbers because they played in the latter match. I’m not positive, but presumably Banks wound up with 3 because Bonetti and Stepney got 1 and 2.
