Edward Theodore Gein (/ɡiːn/; August 27, 1906[6] - July 26, 1984), also known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, was an American convicted murderer and body snatcher. His crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety after authorities discovered Gein had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin.
Ed Gein's house and 195-acre (79 ha) property were appraised at $4,700 (equivalent to $41,000 in 2018) His possessions were scheduled to be auctioned March 30, 1958, amidst rumors that the house and the land it stood on might become a tourist attraction. Early on the morning of March 20, the house was destroyed by fire. A deputy fire marshal reported that a rubbish fire had been set 75 feet (23 m) from the house by a cleaning crew tasked with disposing of trash; further, that hot coals were recovered from the spot of the bonfire, and fire from the bonfire's location did not travel along the ground to the house. Arson was suspected, but the cause of the fire was never officially determined. When Gein learned of the incident while in detention, he shrugged and said, "Just as well."

I've watched you put rocks on tens of graves. But, when you put it on Mrs. Worden's with your gentle pat, I burst into tears. Such a sweet and respectful gesture. Again, I don't know why I reacted so. Well done. Thanks Scott.

What was sad was his last murder could have been prevented, he kept dropping hints that he murdered Mary Hogan and no one took it seriously. A nephew of one of the officers who first went into Gein's house of horrors said that every man who was in that group died an early death, as if the trauma somehow shortened their lives. Great job in describing the creepy desolation of the area, I could feel it in the pit of my stomach.

Not really, not if you had the frame of mind the people at that time had, Ed was always saying weird things that yes, were dead giveaways that he did it, but Ed was weird from childhood due to the way his parents treated him, so they just never took him seriously. It was very different mentality back then.

It makes your blood run cold thinking that so many of these killers are created by monstrous parents that have no concept, or caring, of the damage they inflict and the horror they inflict on the world in general. Just because you have the privilege of creating life doesn't mean some people should, prime examples George and Augusta Gein. Thank you for sharing what was a horrific crime and a tough story for you to share.

Heard lots of Gein stories over the years. My maternal grandmother was born in Waushara County. My mom's friend lived in Plainfield pretty much all her life. She knew alot about what happened. So interesting to hear from somebody who was actually in the area at the time this all happened.

You know, when you hear about people like Ed Gein, you want to know everything. The who, the why, the then and everything in between. You really help bring to light these factors in a person's life by showing and explaining it to us. I've always enjoyed your narrating. You really are good at it and Ive told you that before. You're a great story teller Scott. Thanks for the hard work in sharing these topics with us brother. Well done. Well done. 👍

I've always been intreagued by Ed Gein's story. I've seen several of the movies based in him. My 2 favorites being "Derranged" (1974) starring Roberts Blossom, and "Ed Gein" (2007) starring Kane Hodder. If you ever find yourself back here in Cleveland, you should do a video covering the Torso Murders in the 1930's. Great video as always Scott. Take car.

Hi Scotty. How are you? I have read and watched quite a few documentaries on crime but this one sent chills up my spine and literally made me sick. I have never heard of any story more bizarre than this one. Could there be anything worse? However anything shown or told by you I will never miss. Such a job well done by you. Could see the sadness in your face for the people in this story and it must have been hard for you visiting those locations. It helped a lot to understand everything that took place. You are the best. The way you interact with your subscribers individually is so commendable and you are loved by so many. Thanks Scotty for entertaining us and for teaching us about things we may have never known about in our day to day lives. Lots of love from all of us❤️✌🏼🤗💕

Hi Karen , well this video was tough for many reasons let alone it’s a difficult subject to film and I wanted to get it filmed correctly and with respect. It was definitely lonely way up north there in Wisconsin but it’s stark beauty is also quite breathtaking. And yes I try my best to write back to everyone who comments because I truly do appreciate anyone who takes the time to watch what I put up. I hope Sean is doing well I haven’t heard from him in a while . Please give him my best and let the whole family know some day I’ll be down there to visit all of you! Take care!

Just to let you know about the Plainfield cemetery, Bernice Worden has her own head stone, its very flat and is right in front of the large Worden stone. I have pics if your interested. Also, right in front of the Geins headstones toward the road is Eleanor Adams headstone, whom Ed dug up and parted her remains. The police exhumed her grave and found it to be empty. I'm not sure if her body was ever returned to rest. Kind of ironic that Ed ended up being buried right behind her.

@10:20 begins the clicking sounds you (Scott) were talking about in your current EG video. The clicking sounds, they sound like chains hitting concrete, and they start when you were getting emotionally charged talking about Ed's past and his relations with family. I guess we will never know if they sounds are ghostly paranormal, however they do sound clear and loud, like it was on another track.

Great version of the story. 2022 brought me back here. Just a fascinating, sad and sick story. I can see why so many filmmakers steal from this and try to make it their own. Fantastic job bringing this creepy story to us. Wow - disturbing to say to least. These places are creepy now, but can you imagine the landscape and times of back then. Damn uncomfortably thinking about it. Ok - nuff said. Great job, Scott. Glad the 2022 installment had the humour to get us through it. Take care.

Historic aerials show the Tavern stood just inside the shrubbery to left. It was later converted to a house and before being razed. The Gein farmhouse actually stood facing 2nd Ave, just south of Archer immediately to the right of the entry gate you showed us and not left. The other buildings on the property were not standing in 1957. The barn stood in the location of the smaller structures there today and where Miss Worden'sbody was found.

Where did you find these aerial shots? You are correct about everything except one thing, Bernice Wordens body was found in the summer kitchen which was attached to the rear end of the house facing west. Eds car and truck are both west of Plainfield about 28 miles, stored in a machine shed all these years.

I grew up in an area that is very rich in haunted history. You may want to some day make a series of videos of the Willow Springs Illinois area... Several good topics to cover there: The Grimes Sisters, Oh Henry's Bar (Capone hangout with tunnels that lead to cemetery, and the Willowbrook Ball Room, which has since burnt down), Resurrection Mary(Resurrection Cemetery is in nearby Justice Illinois), The Helen Brach horse ranch, etc. etc. There are lots of creepy places there, and some of the stories connect one place to another. Crazy how his victim is buried so close to him and his family. Also I am surprised with the obsession people have with serial killers that Ed's gravesite isn't littered with fan memorabilia

@@TheAnonymous-d4l Not revenge --more like from the crazy conditioning of mommy. He was taught 'good'girls' shouldn't talk or act in such & such way -- so that made them 'evil' according to mommy's teachings -- BUT the really weird thing is that Ed 'wanted them'-- was attracted to them---- but 'mommy would think me a bad boy if I went with them--type thing-- And Ed really snapped when 'mommy' died- suddenly there was no one to TELL HIM what to do-- Ed; " Mommy can't be gone--" and some where along the line ED -- for awhile at least 'BECAME MOM' -- He'd tan the woman's skins, sow them together-- wear those skins -- Probably sat in her chair in her bedroom & read out loud... The mother's room was the only room in the house that was neat & tidy. I think the gruesome times in his mind his 'dad' would take over. Just a guess but once on the mental ward along with the drugs they had him on-- mentally I think he spent most of the rest of his time alive -- mentally thinking he was a 'kid' again. This is all just guessing on my part -- The dude's dead we can't talk to him. Ed used to baby sit people's kids -- Maybe at those times in his mind he wanted to be a kid -- He never really got to play with other kids when he was young. I'm no shrink -- But learned a lot from college plus just tons of reading on the subject.

Henry Gein died when he and Ed were doing some burning. He brought them to where Henry’s body was. I believe that Ed murdered his brother. As for the two other innocent victims of Ed Gein, I strongly believe he seen both the owner of the hardware store and the owner of the bar as his mum and he was SO angry and screwed up by the behaviour of his parents but more so towards his mother that he took his anger and frustration out on Bernice Worden and the other lady whose name I can’t remember. Rest in peace to Ed Geins victims.
