the fabulous four This is a great thing. I support grapplers to do more cross competition. Unfortunately, IJF is trying to prevent Judokas from competing in BJJ tournaments. BJJ guys should also try competing in other grappling sports. It helps raise their skill levels, even adapting to different rule sets.

People calling it sandbagging are too reductive - dude can obviously takedown, but his submissions probably aren't past the blue belt level. It's not a simple case of "oh, he belongs in a higher belt" because he very likely doesn't.
@alanguages

Dannynorw Definitely did. Reason why he is at the division he is in. He can only get better. He is at a higher level at the takedown, which many BJJ practitioners need to improve on. Just like Ed Ruth has to get better at his submissions and submission defense.

Worth noting that Ed Ruth was extremely dominant in college and Olympic medalist-level, regularly training at the Olympic center. You're going into the absolute worst meatgrinder standing with him. With that said, Mateus Rodrigues found a way to sub him -- shoutout to the effectiveness of BJJ.

tag1out Is this wrestler fighting black belts at Worlds and competing with Rafael Mendes? No. He's rolling against a random blue belt with 18 months rolling experience. So why should a BJJ guy jump into NCAA D1? Secondly, the wrestler will keep showing his back, and the BJJ guy will be unable to attack it due to wrestling rules.

eduardo toledo BJJ is a different sport, and he is still not at a high level in the art. He will progress faster than others, as he will be able to mix the two grappling arts together, still he had to start from the beginning. It is annoying when people accuse him of sandbagging, yet it is clear he is still low in BJJ skills.

@alanguages
@alanguages 6 жыл бұрын
Bryan Taylor In BJJ? Does that also mean if you are a champion in BJJ, then you should wipe the floor in MMA? Marcelo Garcia must have been an undefeated MMA champion for a long time then. This is similar shit, when Cyborg lost a kickboxing match against Jorina Baars = Cyborg would lose to Ronda Rousey in MMA. Two different sports.
@bryantaylor2427
@bryantaylor2427 6 жыл бұрын
Not true. BJJ is one aspect of MMA, so someone who is a professional MMA fighter is expected to train heavily in BJJ. MMA encompasses many forms of martial arts beyond BJJ, so someone who is a BJJ player lacks all the other necessary skills to be successful in MMA. In other words, a professional MMA fighter trains in BJJ, but a BJJ player does not train MMA. So your argument is not valid.
@alanguages
@alanguages 6 жыл бұрын
Bryan Taylor No it is not since, many MMA fighters are not high level BJJ, even if they train in MMA. You just stated any pro MMA fighter should wipe the floor with BJJ guys at blue belt level. That is utterly idiotic. So every pro MMA figher, should be given at least a purple belt then, even though they have never competed in BJJ competition? Afterall a pro MMA figher should just beat blue belt BJJ competitors by presumption. Do you realise how outrageously stupid that sounds? Are you saying high level BJJ players are not able to use their strengths to win at MMA? They can win, but it is that much harder, since it is a different sport.

Please admire and approve..." Vain people do their best to come off as confident, but when one loves themselves and doesn't need others to be wow'd by them, they'll naturally exhibit less peacocking.
