I love my Native LW in Spy27. It's definitely one of my favorites.

Could not agree more. Criminally underrated. I've been preaching about the Native for years. It's my number one recommendation when people ask me what knife to get. My only "complaint" is that given my hand size the grip becomes uncomfortable if I try to use a deep carry clip on it. Other than that I've had one in my rotation ever since I became aware of the model.

This is just a top notch quality tool that will last for years and years. No bling, no bs. Built for the purpose. I feel the same way about the Manix 2 lightweight, which is probably too big for you to be interested in.

Just got one of these native 5 LW in spy27. It’s quickly becoming one of my favorite knives in my large collection.

Native lw platform allows us to try all the new steels at a reasonable price. I love the lockback hate the no washers. I used to like the sage a lot more but now they are equal in rotation. Sage is better built but the blade shape on native is slightly nicer to me. Spyderco frn is really good except on real cold days outside...things get a lil tighter if your outside. working it. M4 rex 45 so far wish I had a 90v. Back lock is awesome if your wearing gloves no complaints here at all. Like it fine every lock has its ups and down. The choil and jimping is perfect. Note to those who take their knives apart.....1. The body screws are into plastic so you only get a few in and outs before you need to figure out how much lock tite you need to use to get em to work again. 2.if you don't like the tightness take a lil off the lockbar at the opposite side of the blade. 3. Get some silicon or phosbronze washers SUPER THIN and its a different fidgety knife with lock bar lightly sanded. Thx E

I just started collecting knives to EDC and use. I already have 4 Spydercos. I just bought the Native 5 Salt Green and love it! Took in the hot tub last night night to test it, no rust, looks like new. Would highly recommend it. And I find it just as much fun to fidget with.

I've been admiring the Native 5 LW for ages! I really want to try one someday.

To me the Native 5 is one of the best EDC blades. I have the maxamet version and the fluted CF version. But I do agree on the edges been a little rounded can go a long ways for comfort. It's easy to sharpen and maintain. Just dont over tighten the screws on the FRN models, I did that on the LW St. Nick's version and one of the thread inserts came out. Spydercos warranty was no help at all for fixing them. The nicest ones I've seen are the Damascus model or the Abel Exclusives.

Spyderco really hit a home run with their LW series.

I'm looking at getting one. I'll probably go for the new magnacut salt. (Jumping on the magnacut hype train a little...) But the Native 5 looks like a great worker/ beater, as you've already said, and if magnacut adds to the lack of maintenance/ beater aspect, then great! I've always turned my nose up at FRN, but then I've never owned an FRN knife, so I shouldn't judge before I've tried.

I agree, I think the Native 5 with SPY27 is an awesome addition to any EDC rotation.

An excellent video! I just ordered a Native 5 lightweight because I am really attracted to it. I’ve been carrying a Para3 lightweight and love it ( except for the wire pocket clip ); then I got a Sage5 lightweight and love the blade shape ( less of a Spyderco-hole hump ) and compression lock. What I really like about the Native 5 lightweight is the spine of the blade being more flat ( no hump ) and the lock back which I feel is the best lock for folding knives. Its size and lightweight is also a big plus; such a simple knife.

Just picked up a Native 4 in SPY 27! Looking forward to getting and using it.

I am waiting very patiently for my new native 5 salt in magnacut to come in. It will likely become my preferred skinning and overall hunting knife. The super secure lock back and the nice sweep on the blade will be great for my usage. Coupled with the edge retention and corrosion resistance it will be perfect

I should get one to test and still might soon but I feel my Manix 2 is the perfect match for me currently.

Great video as always. I picked up a Magnacut Native 5 and really enjoy it. But I'd be interested to hear your take on if you think the small Sebenza would do any of your normal work tasks that the Native 5 wouldn't.

Love the design of the Native 5 but just preferred something larger so.went with the Endela but might grab a Manic LW for the more leaf like blade shape. 👍

I have a Caribbean spyderco and it is pretty big I think I'll try one of those light weights. The s90v blade is the way to go in my opinion.

I own like 9 Natives 5, mostly Lightweights. I use all of them. Especially LC200N, Maxamet and SPY27.

I think the Rex-45 version from GP Knives is only $109. That’s steal for a knife in one of Golden Colorado’s best steels.

Thanks, that was really helpful. I've been looking for some backlock knife from Spyderco that is different than Dragonfly and Delica. I've never had Native but for some reason I thought I wouldn't like it and that it's a bit bulky and the blade is too short and too wide. I thought I would try Siren, which seemed original interesting and became a discontinued model. I prefer slim, narrow blades over the wider ones. People praised it fo ergonomics and the action of the lockback. But in my opinion Siren looks really ugly and seems to be a very specialized tool. After watching your video I see that I underestimated Native and I changed my mind, I'm going to buy Native 5 with s110v blade. Thanks for your help.

It's pretty evident that Spyderco has struggled internally with clip design consolidation. Flagship models like the Shaman, Military, and Native 5 LW got special clips, but I think the bean counters got mad about it. The new military has the standard spoon clip shared with tons of models. But I get the impression that a faction of Spyderco's designers weren't stoked about that decision. As with all design decisions, almost nothing is ever perfect. Wonderful video BTW!

FRN and back-locks are winners in my book! I don’t have a Native 5 (yet), but I’m sure that will change eventually.

I prefer the para 3 lightweight over the native 5, but I to bring my native 5 salt camping.

I really enjoy d native5 n I have 4 of it.

I've been carrying a pm3L over the past year and it's been great. I don't like that the compression lock is light on closed retention though. It opens when dropped and it can open in your pocket via other pocket items, such as a pen. The thumb hole is more exposed on the para 3 L. I wish the native 5 had the stock rounded edges but I'm still eyeing switching for safety (lock mechanism) reasons.

If they did the native 5 with a compression lock, it would be the perfect knife. Back locks just dont make any sense anymore. There are so many better, more functional options. And before anyone argues stregnth, strength is not an issue here. A compression or even a ball lock is perfectly strong enough . Especially on a little 3 inch knife. Even a liner lock would of been a better option than a back lock.

How thick is the leather lanyard? Also who did the sanding on the gray native 5?

I have a lc200n version that I use for moto/mtb in tropical North Queensland. All it basically does is live in sweaty backpacks/ pockets and cut the odd wait a while plant

Chris Reeve knives are trash
