Big Shopify Update! July 2023 | Shopify Editions newest features explained

Some quick tutorials on the latest Shopify features that were released in July 2023 in the Shopify Summer Editions.
Watch this to get up to speed and start using the new features on your store.
Here’s what I cover:
Shopify Admin updated
Improved look of the Shopify admin and seems to be a lot faster too.
Color schemes
More control over colors by setting a color scheme for each section rather than for the entire theme.
Shopify Bundles App
apps.shopify.com/shopify-bundles
We can finally create product bundles natively in Shopify!
Variant limit increase to 250 (upcoming)
The 100 variant limit is being increased to
Shopify Flow available to all plans
Flow is an automation tool for Shopify very similar to Zapier, except rather than connecting to external apps it also works on your Shopify admin and can do lots of tasks internally.
Shopify Subscriptions app (upcoming)
Subscriptions are coming to Shopify! Easily set up subscriptions on existing products, give a discount and set subscription frequency.

You can now redesign your store for different countries and languages! Not just translation, but actually add different content for each country.
Metaobject templates
Shopify is becoming a full CMS like Wordpress with the addition of Metaobject pages. Create custom pages for any type of content you want.
Flex Sections (upcoming)
Shopify Sections are getting more customizable with Flexbox. Drag and resize Sections and blocks. And create block groups.
Dawn 11
Dawn 11 has new features for wholesale stores.
Shopify Sidekick
Sidekick is like Chat GPT for Shopify. It can tell you how to do things and even do them for you.
One-page checkout
A long-awaited feature, one-page checkouts are finally coming to Shopify (soon)
Development / duplicate stores
Easily duplicate a store and use it for testing and previews.
Shopify Collective (US Only)
Sell products from other Shopify stores on your store! They are shipped directly from the other store.

The meta object piece is the one where I’m not sure exactly how to use it. You’re my source for Shopify information! You are especially good at taking their information and the giving examples of where someone could use that on their site. I’m a noob but I’m also a very technical person with a software development background. So this is super helpful. Keep it up!

Hi thank you for the video! I like your videos! to the point, no nonsense, no empty boosts, very useful. I am new to shopify so my questions may sound dumb. Are all these new features only available to Shopify-developed themes? Another question is I wonder if you have recommended any themes in your past videos? I think for developers like you, you can turn Dawn to however you like it to be, but for a total layman like me, I wonder if you could recommend some themes (paid most likely) that are easy to manipulate for beginners.

Create a flow >>> when order is placed, customer is tagged with title of products purchased or tagged with a specific metafield of the products

bundles but it needs more work. needs to display the products on the front end of a propduct page. this is something the theme devs will need to expedite.

Hey I'm new to working on a Shopify website and as i was trying to learn how to use metafields for creating custom filters from your previous videos, this update changed the metafields (or custom data) section of the settings completely and now it looks nothing like your video or anyone else's Would you be able to do an update on that section?

Great video Ed. If I create a custom bundle app for my client, would I be able to create a bundle with more than 100 variants?

I don't know much about app dev, but I think the app is just an interface and the 100 variant limit goes deeper than that. Unless you do what older bundling apps always did, which was creating additional products for each variant and just making them look like variants on the front end.

The one thing I’m questioning is the Shopify collective option. If it’s that easy, everyone will be doing the exact same thing. So it kind of like a race to the bottom on price I would think. That’s my mindset.

Not everyone will partner with the same companies I think, it has to be a good fit, relevant for your customers. And the store you are reselling from has the choice of rejecting your request.

Great info! Thank you so much. I am also questioning Shopify collective - do you get like a referral fee? Would we be penalized for slow shipping/ missing products/ crap products? But its very interesting, from a perspective of increasing store revenue. ( And behind the scenes of selling a website - you could just sell a shit ton of the collectives popular products and make your store look like it has an extra 50K of revenue? #askingforafriend :)

No I think you can just price the products whatever you want. The shop might give you wholesale pricing, and you can sell for retail price. As for shipping, I think your customer will be informed that item X is shipping from another store maybe, dunno. Missing products you would get in touch with that store I guess, and as for crap products - don't partner with stores selling crap products! I definitely think you should not overuse this feature. Be very selective in the stores you partner with. It will be difficult to sell a shit ton of products without looking like all the low quality dropshipping stores out there.

will they ever add multiple variant images? its so basic and crucial at once...

I'm not sure if it's crucial for that many stores... it would be interesting to see statistics of how many stores need this feature, and also what the benefit is in conversion rate compared to just having those images in your product page but not linked to variants.
