On this day in 1958 {October 10th} the private detective series '77 Sunset Strip' premiered on the ABC-TV network... The series ran for six years with a total of 206 episodes... Edd Byrnes played 'Kookie'* on the show; and a little over four months later on April 14th, 1959 his "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #72, and just three weeks later on May 11, 1959 it would peak at #4 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 13 weeks... The record's B-side, "Like I Love You", also made the Top 100, it reached #42 and spent 9 weeks on the chart... * On the series' first episode Edd Byrnes actually played hit man named 'Smiley'; he later would play 'Kookie' on 137 episodes...
