I am actually old enough to remember this being played on the radio. (Very young, but I liked it - even though I didn't really understand it.) Searched for this song b/c a major character in "77 Sunset Strip" died recently, and his obit mentioned a colorful parking lot attendant named Edd Byrnes, and the "Kookie" song. Curiosity led me here! Body language (especially Connie's) and physical movements - fascinating.

On this day in 1958 {October 10th} the private detective series '77 Sunset Strip' premiered on the ABC-TV network... The series ran for six years with a total of 206 episodes... Edd Byrnes played 'Kookie'* on the show; and a little over four months later on April 14th, 1959 his "Kookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb)" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #72, and just three weeks later on May 11, 1959 it would peak at #4 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 13 weeks... The record's B-side, "Like I Love You", also made the Top 100, it reached #42 and spent 9 weeks on the chart... * On the series' first episode Edd Byrnes actually played hit man named 'Smiley'; he later would play 'Kookie' on 137 episodes...

Thank you for the upload. Wonderful nostalgia. This was spring of '59 and Connie Stevens was about to make quite a splash herself in the fall '59 as Cricket on Hawaiian Eye.

I met Edd "Kookie" Byrnes and Connie Stevens some years ago (albeit at different times). She was still attractive and he still had a full head of hair! R.I.P. Edd.

Damn! I had the same record. I was ten. I stoned my mom to get it and she did. It didn't occur to me then that those songs were from when she was a teenager.

I had all those KTEL records too. On the West Coast, we usually found them at Thrifty Drug Stores! Do you remember the Ronco record cleaner?..lol! 😀

The most innocent form of early rap. He has swag but is a gentleman as he respectfully flirts with pretty Connie Stevens. No profanity, no bitch calling or twerking. Yet timeless. RIP Mr Byrnes😚
