Eddie Griffin Details Coining the Term "Thirsty" on Dr. Dre's Chronic 2001

Eddie Griffin spoke at length with DJ Vlad about working with Dr. Dre on Chronic 2001, which Eddie told us came together the night after he celebrated the producer's birthday. He explained that Dre got him drunk in the studio in attempt to recreate Eddie's mood from the previous night, which the comedian said was a success. The Undercover Brother actor told us that he was riled up and ready to go once Dre sent him in the booth, where he churned out the skit "Bar One," which first coined the popular term, "thirsty."
Eddie also spoke about his relationship with 2Pac during the conversation, and he agreed with DJ Vlad saying that none of the rappers today are as politically outspoken as the late "Dear Mama" rapper. The comedian then clarified his statement by adding that "nobody is daring [to speak out], it's not that they can't."

i agree with you on one thing, eddie is too raw to go mainstream. eddie should be alot more bigger than he is but he never abandoned who is at heart and he always kept it raw and uncut and thats what i respect about him the most. yeah, he can be bigger than what he already is but he too real to "play the game''and plus he be dropping hella gems too on some real shit. he'll probably be big as eddie murphy but he ain't willing to sell out, he got too much pride for that. stick to your guns ed, us real fans still fuck with you. you'll always be in my top 3, hands down

I hate when people talk about the social message. Pac and Bob was It? People disregard the old south because the new south is straight garbage. Listen to Outkast, Goodie Mob. The Dungeon Family as a whole. UGK. FOH Vlad with that bandwagon shit.

@Stepchild1
@Stepchild1 8 жыл бұрын
+aikens todd If you knew history you would also know he inspired Big Boi and Dre, they have both said it on numerous occasions. I never said they inspired Pac or did it before Pac, I'm saying the tree grew much bigger than most people from the east and west coast give credit. And that's mainly because of what's happening in southern music now, and because most of the country has copied that sound and they resent it.

I was a young kid in Barbados in about 1985. Kids on the football (soccer) field were regularly calling other boys "thirsty" if they kicked too hard or if they couldn't stop talking about a girl. Black kids have been using that word since at least 1985. So this isn't where it began. No idea who started using it.
