This song doesn't get the recognition it deserves. It's an anthem for every new generation.

Wisely spoken. I belong to the generation who were 14 in 77, which is about right, because, as Arthur Lee sang it, ''7 and 7 is...''. You chose the right word , ''ANTHEM''.

It's the song that inspired The Records' Will Birch and John Wicks to write, "Starry Eyes"! Wicks: "“I was listening to the radio and heard, ‘Do Anything You Wanna Do,’ by Eddie and the Hot Rods. I said to Will Birch, who wrote the lyrics, ‘We’ve got to write a song like this!’ It was really cool. I did the music.”--Washington Times, 2017

I watched this performance on TOTP back in 1977 and it is this that turned me onto punk as a 15 year old. The energy, the message, it just got me hooked & it's as relevant today as it has ever been, it's a fantastic song & sounds as good as it did then.

The absolutely perfect rock-pop single. One or two Clash, Members, Buzzcocks, Blockheads singles match it but no-one surpasses it. Special mention for the bassist.

I first saw this band at The Hunt hotel in leighton buzzard, the summer of '76. They were fantastic. They had everything, great songs, great musicians, I don't know why They fell out of favour. But the live at the marquee E.P. will always be one of the best records ever made, I don't care what anybody else says!!
@captainape68075 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly, they were not considered true Punk. Such things were not a concern to me and I bought the 12inch but I believe that's why they fell out of favor. If I remember correctly the cover for the single had a small pic of Aleistar Crowley, wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

Thanks! KZfaq suggested this clip after me listening to Nick Lowe. This is a great tune, but I don't really know anything about this band. But I recalled that they had something to do with (my hero) Mark Hollis' brother, and then I saw your comment. :)

"This freeness with sex and drugs saw Crowley embraced by the rock and roll generation, particularly after he appeared on the cover of Sgt Pepper. But the story behind another of Crowley’s cover appearances is not so well known. In 1977, Essex rockers Eddie And The Hot Rod wrote a song that was partly inspired by Crowley’s famous motto: ‘Do what thou wilt is the whole of the law’. The band rewrote this as “Do Anything You Wanna Do”, a spirited ode to self-empowerment, and attached the lyrics to a perky pop tune that quickly reached the Top Ten." lol
