Eddie still seems pretty down to earth considering the life he's led, the experiences he's had, the money he's made, and the praise that's been lavished upon him. I'm a guitarist who's been playing for almost 40 years, and I've obviously never hit the big time. It's probably a good thing, because if I had, I'd probably be dead by now. I dearly love my wife of over 30 years, and if I had been a rock star, I'd probably be divorced by now. Fame really takes a toll on you, not that I know from experience. Anyone who's been in the limelight for as long as Eddie has, and survived, and cleaned up their life, deserves major kudos. He even had the class to attend former wife Valerie Bertinelli's wedding to someone else. Anyone who does that can't be all bad, even though he's obviously made many mistakes along the way. Eddie, keep fighting the good fight, bro.

It's contrary to Sammy Hagars POS book RED . His book was supposed to be about himself BUT he used it as an unfair smear campaign against the Halen Bros . They never screwed him over . Sam said something to really piss Eddie off trying to be leader of the band literally . Big mistake . He tried to paint a picture that he was all about the money . Most people don't know Eddie did promotion work for Kramer Guitars FOR FREE . Kramer's profit margin was small because of the inclusion of the Floyd Rose Tremolo . Eddie worked with Kramer for free to keep the price down .

I understand and respect his/family privacy, but his story of getting sober in 2007 is a beautiful story, and maybe his greatest gift to others. A lot of people do not realize how much he struggled .He wrote and played under the influence for his entire career. I would think that having all of that success under those circumstances would make it SO difficult to find sobriety. It would take great courage to change after years of being put on a pedestal under the influence of all sorts of things. Your are totally right, you can see the light in his eyes

will say it a million times, and mean it everytime Being a guitarist myself, I know what EVH was to me. Everyone else here knows what he meant to them. You can throw out all the superlatives you want about The Master, but there is never going to be an argument about his mastery of his chosen art. No else had players around the planet going "What the F is that". From his grin to his fingers Eddie was born to bring us joy through his expression of his art, and you can thank whatever god you believe in that he shared his joy with us. ALWAYS #1 UNPARALLELED. When the master emerged, from the opening chords of you really got me, every player knew the sonic landscape was changed in a way that was unheard of up to that time. Eruption smashed his foot onto your throat daring you to try to emulate him. No one can. There was never anyone like him, and there will never be another, and I miss his artistry.

I agree. His solos are iconic and memorable. And perhaps even more important are the hooks. So many, Beautiful girls, bottoms up, I'm the one, unchained, etc. etc. etc. Almost every single Van Halen song from those first five records is instantly recognizable within a couple of notes or even less.
