SynthWave oriented.
Knowing deadline is near, I dare not to learn a new genre, just picked SynthWave which I'm more comfortable with.
Laying down one ostinato/sequence which descripts fifth and third of the chord, bad idea in hindsight for the third will limit where you can go with your melody and progression.
Then add the baseline at tonic, there's a chord progression!
I then added another sequence, which is related to the first ostinato in sorta Question/Answer relationship,
to fill in the top (i.e. higher than C-5) of the frequency spectrum to make the progression more complete... fuller...
It sounds like sampled choir played at impossible for human mouth to reach octaves. (That's INS.03:Funny Pad)
Now leaves me with C4 to C5 to play with melody.
But still, it's not all clean, some of the chords are overlapping this range.
So I chose a PWM square wave to cut through the Mix.
Now writing the melody.
Following 1.5octive whistling rage, always points up guidelines, and the fact this is SynthWave song, I lay down this melody which everyone can tell it's SynthWave for one of the bars is a most commonly used sequence in this genre.
And anther sequence an octave higher to make it memorable.
When writing this melody, I could see myself running in a city at a rainy night where there's all the neon light billboards, holograms. Flying vehicles roaring through the sky.
Tarnished with blood, A sword I own
Dying, life mixed with rain, dripping down the chest.
But still running I am, running down the edge of life and death.
Sounds Fine....😂
Now the drums.
I've only "mastered" one drum grove: 16 Beats
i.e. hats on all beats, Kick on 13, SD on 2 4 as a bassline.
I could stop there, it's a solid beat that works every time.
But I decided to be colourful.
Added Volume(i.e. velocity) and beat(uesing EDxx command) swings to all CloseHiHats.
Spams Kicks wherever I like, and carefully add ghost shots to snare.
Now mastering, I decided to not follow the SynthWave practise, which removes parts and then later adding back as the song progresses.
I chose to keep adding features to keep the LUFS high.... cheap as loudness war shot..... I know it, and I hate it. But it works in contests, check out BotB then you know what I mean.
Other contest oriented "optimisations" are keeping the song intro less than 15 seconds, half of the 30 seconds window, or trying to.....
A as loud as possible punchy Kick and a passable snare.
Ear candies, like left right panning, left right detuning to add stereo separation.
Boom! you now have a song.
Now, naming things, I did considered Booger_AIDS.fur for all you Rick'n'Morty fan 'boi.
But here's my thinking process,
Sad SynthWave, DarkSynth but not, Cyberpunk 2077 uses alot of it,
I know!

WAS $$TOO stress OUT to write A description$$!!
On the very last 3days of the contest, I got a email from Github/LTVA which says the ESFM function which I am one of the most ardent supporter has been added to Furnace.
And there's a contest to find a folder of Demo songs.
I was a bit sad for following reasons.
a. There's only 3 days left......
b. I haven't done anything with OPL family for a long time, I might forget some important aspects of it. Mostly unsure of how to create an instrument properly.
c. Me? This guy? Contest? Against ye olde ancient gods like my personal childhood hero Reijin whom I only found out was there all this time after the dust is settle? With little to none knowledge about musik? Who can't even spell music properly? Really?
d. what's a ESFM????? any quirks????
I was getting a cold feet. Keeping thinking about letting this one slide.
But somehow I've joined the discord and begin to decipher the rules.
And so it begins.
Re-crash the crash course of OPL3 and FM Synthesis.
Spent some time just to play with the instrument settings like patch/Algorithm, multifactors, feedback and such.
Created some basic instruments like SnareDrum BassDrum, some Gitar, some Pluks, some SFX which I didn't use, and a Funny Pad.
