Moray, like many others I grew up on a small farm. We gardened and canned. I made pickles and we froze many vegetables and fruits. I then went into the service and got married. We harvested the garden for a few fruits and vegetables, but the bulk of our food came from a grocery store instead of a garden. Much more of our food was processed. Today, I am trying to teach my daughter and grandson to cook from scratch, to can and freeze what comes from our gardens. We are trying to grow much more of our own food. We are also trying to buy our food locally. In the Philippine Islands our foot print is much less than in America, where our foot print is much larger. I love everything you do!! Thank you for sharing with us. Also how do you make your skirts? Was there a certain pattern that you use? I would love to make skirts for my daughters and myself.

Morag you seem to have a lot of raised beds, high walled garden etc. from what I can see for your veggies & herbs. Is this what you would suggest? I'm in central Florida & have similar climate to you. But I plant straight into the soil & get a lot of insects. So would welcome your response.

Have you heard or have experience of using bokashi for processing waste from the cat litter box? Would you expect any profound difference in the process between dog and cat faeces?

The bokashi mix for pets is good for both cats and dogs. It is stronger than the usual brew. We even put it in our dry compost loo.
