Bought this partly because of your review. I'm impressed with what you can get for wireless.

Biiiiig thumbs up for the physical buttons. I don't know who's great idea was to go for touch controls as the main thing - the number of times I accidentally switched or stopped a track in my xm3's exceeded the times I actually needed that action by a huge amount. Even resorted to turning off touch controls for some events

The most surprising test was the microphone quality. Their mic has no business sounding that good 😂

Everytime I watch a video I want to buy something hahahaha. I LOVE that you bother to do the mic tests, and to be fair for a product you would buy for listening quality, it is really awesome to see that call quality wasn't neglected. It is a shame there is no ANC, that seems to be the only feature missing really. Hopefully edifier work out their cross platform compatibility in the future too. A lot of people who are into audio and production are big apple junkies, so it feels like a dropped ball. Great review guys! I am going to binge some more of your videos

I decided to splash out and get these to replace my aging wireless headphones, partially based on your review :) First up, audio is excellent, the best I've heard on wireless headphones. The stax mode is my favourite with vocals (classical mode has more bass). It's comfortable to wear for me. And the ice cups are handy. Battery life is great. Yes, there's no transparency mode and no ANC though there's some passive noise isolation. The main things that I don't like is the on/on controls and hit and miss app. The on/off button takes around 4sec to turn on or off. Sometimes up to 7 seconds. This isn't a Bose one press and it's on. Nor an old Sony NFC tap to pair. I can see the buttons becoming a failure point without some care over the longterm. The app doesn't always realise there's a stax s3 headphone, despite Bluetooth connection. And the option to turn off the headphones from inside the app lot use the timer) is several presses in. The widget on android drop down is decent. Hopefully, Edifier will sort out the app (and the unnecessary app start up "skip" screen). I had crashes when I moved out of range with a Bluetooth connected laptop. Call quality is decent in a quiet environment. But in windy conditions people couldn't hear me clearly. Wired use was interesting. With my LG v60 lower volume and more subdued. With a very old Sony DAP, volume was about the same but detail etc was better than wireless. Though some female vocals were very sharp. The Edifier Stax s3 are my go to listening device at home now. Hopefully, Edifier will update the app. And the next iteration needs Bose button control! (I tried the Bose nc700 and found that more comfortable than the s3, but it'll vary person to person).

I bought these I am happy withe them... The sound quality do weigh up the lack of build quality abd creaking noises. The fact the planar magnetic driver produce spdidn from both frontside and backside of the driver does make it so that better cancel external sound, so the need of ANC is a lot less then with headphones with dynamic driver. Something I wonder is how they compare with the audeze mobius with similar price but more targeted to gamers, for that reason it might have less authentic sound presentation for music? Anyway build quality and looks is better on the mobius... Anyway I got my S3 stax with a discount I paid 200 Eur for this price it seem unbeatable.

Fantastic review. They look great and comfy, but can't justify the high price at this time. Also, the mic doesnt perform too well in wondy conditions, howver, I don't see using them in situations like that so won't matter much. Will definitely keep an eye on them. Thx!!

According to Edifier support the problem with creaking noise was fixed in March 2023

The Yamaha YH-L700A are said to be the best sounding headphones, if possible please review them.

maybe for the next "audiophile" headphones talk a little more about technical performance, like soundstage, instrument seperation, imaging, speed, especially with planars :)

Loved the video! a minor nit: during mic tests I'd appreciate if you block out the background ambient music so we can get a better idea of how the mics sound.

I'm not the market for these, too pricey and no anc. But I like the comparison. Got the Sony xm4's at a steep discount. Very happy with them. Anc is just ridiculous.

So my WH 1000 XM4 are dead. Well they are not dead, but the ANC is broken, if I turn it on, it starts a weird clickety noise in 15 seconds. it is super weird and I am afraid to use the damn thing, it will turn me deaf. I followed some youtube advice and tried to clean it, but it didnt help. I used it for 3 years anyways so I think I can accept they had their worth ... So I am considering forgetting about the ANC and switching to this. Two bluetooth connections is something I would like to keep. Not sure how their mics compare. I dont do calls very often, but when I do it is convenient. XM4s mic was not super as well anyways.
