Y sino vean la despedida de La Callas en Saporo, Japon... El publico a La Callas de ayer y siempre que tambien tanto nos dio... I saw her in Munich last year, singing Casta Diva only 10 meters apart from me, I sat in the front row. I can only say: Bravaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!

In early 90s she said in an interview that she was not going to sing Norma ever and here she is after almost 2 decades. Callas with her best Norma is known to have had the best voice for Norma - that thick and deep voice which was referred to as often being ugly and big, and yes Caballe's version is beautiful and magical. All 3 are great and so very different.

Let me add that she is near 60 at the time of this performance. Edita not only has been able to preserve her voice this long, but she has even grown stronger. Brava, Edita!!!

Although I absolutely adore the Casta Diva of Maria Callas and Renate Tebaldi, Edita's version made me absolutely swoon with her beautiful coloratura and the high note you never hear the others sing. Brava Edita Gruberova!

Perché c’è pubblico ignorante come te. 65 anni fa era assurdo di pensare 💭 che Norma ha 60 anni come è in questo caso e che qualcuno in quest’epoca avrà l’idea ‘geniale’ di lasciare la bisnonna della Norma con la sua voce vecchia, orrenda di interpretare un ruolo scritto per la voce della sua nipotina… O tempora i mores il vecchio

La mia opinione, tuttavia, è che scelgo di commentare indipendentemente dalle macchinazioni di età, altezza, peso, colore della pelle, ecc., Su ciò che percepisco i meriti del cantante sono in qualsiasi pezzo!!! 1. I am not a singer but only one of the public who has seen live Edita Gruberova many, many times and every time it was a big success. She has thousands of fans here in Germany and also in Vienna, Barcelona, in Zurich and many other cities who hope that she will retire as late as possible. There are so many young singers whom I don't like at all: they should retire not the Gruberova!

8. I am looking forward to it and like me thousands of her fans in Germany, Vienna, Zürich, Barcelona and other cities. At 66 she has still a beautiful voice that many singers, much younger than her, don't have at all. I think that the vast majority of the public who are not singers share my points of view.

What a voice! Love the dramatic she puts into it! Cecilia Bartoli which I also like gives an other impression of that song... Edita is one among millions... And Maria Callas interpretation in lower tones is also lovely... I am not that much into operah but when I do, I know my chicks...

Herzlichen Dank für das Video. Ich war gestern (17.1.2009) in München und konnte von bestem Platz die unglaubliche Darbietung verfolgen. Die Schönheit des Gesangs rührten mich zu Tränen.- Thank you for posting this video; I've been to munich yesterday to see this opera and was so impressed, that tears ran from my eyes.

@Lederius18 i agree with you. i am not a musical expert and therefore as a profane i listen to all casta diva videos (callas, sutherland, caballe, sills, fleming, ecc.) and can say that the interpretation of casta diva that most pleases my soul and my ears is that of gruberova followed by that of sarah poncell. with the gruberova i thought there is finally a casta diva sung with subtle delicate voice with a very beautiful timbre and not with dark and too heavy voices that i dislike completely.

I saw her live in Norma several times and I liked her very much. She had endless ovations from all the public. I consider it a fortune that she sings Casta diva because before I never listened to this aria because I did not like so much the voices and the interpretations of the other singers.

Cannot believe that she is capable of singing int his key with such little effort. There are so few sopranos that are capable of singing with so much drama and emotion as she is.

Very nice ,if the Callas or the Caballes did not exist or were invented ,after those 2 is very difficult to give a proper judgement to anybody talent.Gruberova does NOT disgrace herself in this aria ,but it is not for her to sing this role,her light voice does not bring out the necessary dramatic effects required in this masterpiece .The Opera cannot be shelved due to lack of singers for the role,so we take the second or third best ,but as usual for my personal pleasure i shall have to go back in time . Thankfully nor Callas nor Caballé sang this aria in their 60s. Callas had to quit a performance of Norma in her 40s and Caballé was flat most of the times in her 40s as well. Very often the past seems greener, but is it really?
