Shizuka goes on a street food hunt around Tokyo's historic town Ningyocho. The name Ningyocho translates to "Doll Town''. Formerly a red light district, Ningyocho got its name from the traditional puppet theater "ningyo johruri," a popular form of art during the early Edo Period. While the town has been modernized over the years, there are still many places in Ningyocho where you can enjoy the ambiance of old Edo and taste unique Japanese traditional confectionery made with centuries-old recipes.
In this video, Shizuka visits Amazakeyokocho-dori, a traditional shopping street, where she tries authentic street food snacks in Tokyo, some of which have over 400 years of history. Do these classic street foods stand the test of time?

I'd give them all a try if I could but the Ningyo-yaki, Taiyaki, and Pudding interest me the most. My state has a festival we hold once a year for the Japanese who live in it where you can go to learn about the culture in various ways, and plenty of vendors from various food places show up and offer their product..I actually got to try Taiyaki and Takoyaki that way, something I had wanted to do for awhile..sadly 2020 and 2021 were either canceled or virtual only due to the things that happened but I hope one day to go back and try the food again.

I decided to check out this channel due to a recommendation via CHEFPK's channel (I'm a frequent viewer there), he said this channel was the inspiration for his rolled karaage vid he posted on March 15th, so I decided to give a little look at this channel as I love Japanese history and seeing the food. Glad I checked out the channel, got a new subscriber.

There's a long-fought controversy on how to eat taiyakis between two camps. One camp says you got to bite from the head. The other side advocates for eating from the tail end. Shizuka: *bites into the dorsal fins*

Mom would make that “pudding” for us when I was a kid, she would add a dash of vanilla extract to it before baking and a sprinkle of nutmeg, we called it egg custard. Brings back memories.

In this era of instant gratification, it's fascinating to see 100+ year old shops and traditional food and recipes. It is disheartening to see Diabetes/heart-attack inducing western crap replacing traditional foods in my country.

Entertainment District burnt down by a great fire you said? Gyutaro, Tengen and Tanjiro may have something to do with that. 😂 You must be tired with my KNY references. The food looks delicious. I like it that they're freshly made. But the pudding is the one I'd like to try.

🤔how come they are called Seven Lucky Gods ...but there is only... 6 ? and the thing called pudin.... that is a European dessert, Spanish - Portuguese dessert to be specific, called: Flan, that recipe was introduce in most parts of Asia about 150 years ago , when Spaniards expanded their reign over Asia ;) I know that, because here in my country and many other countries in the world, specially in what people call "latin america". we have the same dessert

I love Shabu Shabu. Yaki Niku. And Gyu Dong. And Ramen. Soba and Udon. I hate rice balls and miso soup. But some serious Tako balls or a good Ton Katsu. Hummmm. D³LICIOUS. I am a lucky boy. I have little Tokyo in front of the door. One of japan'S biggest communities outside of Japan is in front of my door!!! Here in the little village in Germany. Called Düsseldorf. No need to stumble for a good Kirin or Asahi beeeeee ru. Sumimasen. Hitotsu o beeeeeeeeeeeeee ru kudasai!!! Oh I forgot the good Curry. And the Hamburg steak... there is so much more to love and hate japan about. Karaage... yakitori fresh from the grill. NEVER EAT THAT WEIRD PLANT THING.
