That hook is pretty unique to OBX. I've never seen it deployed but have been told you swim the fish for over 1/2 hr to lower its temperature, A tuna fights for its life and really heats up expending so much energy!

Amazing catch! Here in Italy the blue fin is almost extinct due to heavy fishing. Going out with your boat and fighting the animal is the most honest and respectful way to catch the tuna. Thank you for sharing this video with the rest of the world!

Just found your channel with this video. This whole process is pretty slick. Especially the research part. The fact that your catch is going to go to feed a great white is just some kind of childhood dream! Hi Joe. I would like to congratulate you for that amazing catch. I am tuna fishing and I have never caught anything over 250 pounds. ( I am in Europe and we don’t have fish like that 😤) I would like to share few tips with you on how you can make that fish to be even better quality. I am not trying to be smart here but just wanted to shate my knowledge. Cooling down fish was done spot on. Before bleeding proces I would suggest that you brain spike fish. That will keep heart pumping and it will not cause any extra stress. After bleeding I suggest that you open upper part of tuna head and that you insert a wire through spinal cord. That action would increase quality of your tuna a lot. If possible I suggest that you gut the fish and put in the ice slurry as fast as possible. Sorry for such a long message but I wanted to share this with you. Looking forward for a new video

Joe, congratulations on your PB Bluefin Tuna. These two videos, from fighting this monster then landing it to securing to the boat where it was swum, cooled, and bled, to the prep work and processing, along with research data obtained, at dock side were splendid and awesome. Please in your next video finish the details of your monster tuna. I, we would love to know, after cooling in ice bath, what grade they gave the meat, did the fat content improve, purchase price per pound quoted, and where was the destination of this monster.

the shark would be attracted to where the blood is in the water, but the boat is moving at a fair clip, so the fish isn't there any more, and sharks don't understand the geometry required to go ahead of the fish's blood trail.
