One of the best child acting performances of all time. 13 years old, and never been in a movie before. And he nailed it. None of the (adult) actors, that played JC later never even came close to Furlong.

I thought dark fate was pretty good, but its hard to imagine that t3 , genesis, or dark fate is the story after t2. its like the movies legit ended at t2. went humerous after them. terminator was scary with chilling music, after just became a joke, talk to the hand and what not.

I was interested to see how the timeline got screwed up, and a T-800 going back to protect a very young Sarah Connor. I find that the Terminator franchise after 2 had some good ideas amongst 3, Salvation, Genisys & Dark Fate. ... If only they could have got their shit straight. Terminator deserves so much better.

Fun Fact: Production for T2 took sufficiently long that Edward Furlong visibly aged during the shoot. He is clearly much younger in the scene in the desert, for example, than in other scenes. His voice began to break and had to be pitched one level in post-production. He had also grown so tall over the months that, for one scene shot late in the production schedule, he had to stand in a hole in the ground in order to maintain continuity in height difference with Linda Hamilton.

A perfect example of this is his co actor Ethan Suplee from American History X. Look how far that dude has come from being out of shape. And there is always hope for Eddie and anyone else. Eddie seems like an empath to me and has a good soul deep down. You need to have walked in his shoes to really know what he went through. I imagine Eddie suffered from depression his whole life, still does and add in being a huge child star with ZERO guidance who acted in the biggest and best action movie ever made (just my opinion) at the most pivotal time in his life. Everyone said the same for Robert Downey Junior. While he wasn't overweight is was a fully blown drug addict in and out of jail and it seemed like his career was kaput. Look at him now with Iron man. This is a cool story. Kind of like some of the discovery stories of actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood. He validated Mali Finn seeing something in him, as he turned out to be a talented young actor. He'll always be remembered for T2, but impressed me more in films like AMERICAN HEART and A HOME OF OUR OWN. People who say he wasn't a good actor should check out some of his more dramatic films. He had a multi-faceted presence you don't see in many teen actors and played some heavy roles opposite some very talented and experienced adult actors. And if he hadn't been at that Boys & Girls Club that day, his talent would have never been known. Makes you wonder just how much talent is never realized, only for lack of opportunity, in this big ol' world.

Well said. It reminds of stuff like the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics where there are young people out there, and of all ages who would have won that gold medal if only they had the opportunity, money and supportive parents behind them. Well from this interview, it sounds like he wasn't trying to be an actor. He was just a normal kid that got asked to be in a movie - a movie that became very successful. Then, he wasn't in anything else nearly as successful. After observing many child actors, I've come to the conclusion that these kinds of transitions can have serious effects on them mentally. Another example is Carl Switzer who played Alfalfa from the original Little Rascals. He was a highly praised child star at the time. But after his voice changed during puberty, the studios dropped him and he struggled to find work. He turned to alcohol and odd jobs, until he got killed over $50. It can take a huge mental toll on anyone who goes from being a nobody to extremely famous, then back to a nobody. For a kid that can't anticipate these transitions, it must be even harder. Add to that the demands of Hollywood, the unscrupulous people you meet, and the access to drugs/alcohol, I think it would be difficult to not fall victim to that deleterious lifestyle.

The casting director for Terminator 2,Mali Finn, spotted Furlong on the steps of the Pasadena Boys Club in September 1990. Furlong had no acting experience whatsoever, but was encouraged by Finn to audition for the role of John Connor.

Don't blame Furlong. Maybe next time Hollywood shouldn't go snatching troubled kids from broken homes, and throw fame and fortune at them, which they obviously don't know how to handle properly. Spoiled rich child actors are barely able to deal with the fame, so I'm surprised he turned out as well as he did.

Gosh watching this made me miss both the actor and John Connor even more. Look what Cameron and the crew of Dark Fate did to John! It was like they decided to rip out the heart of the franchise and try replacing it with a new heart, in the form of a 5 foot tall, 100 pound lady who lacked any fighting spirit or cunning. No surprise that the franchise has been terminated.

@@sauronthegreat5799 I won’t deny that Christian Bale is an amazing actor and it made sense to cast him because John would have to be around 40 years old in Salvation, but Salvation cant hold a candle to the cinematic greatness of T2 regardless of who played John. My only issue with T3 not casting Ed as John was that it had been 12 years or so since T2 came out and Ed would have been the perfect candidate to play John based on the chronological time that had passed in the series. The reason for not casting Ed is beyond me though, maybe he was offered the role and he turned it down.

@@RedSupra He was in trouble with the law for drugs and other offences. The original Terminator, T2, and I even liked Genisys... not so much the acting, because it was awful, but it was definitely interesting and I like that they went back in time and 'tried' to recreate the original intro scene for the first film... even if they couldn't get the 'hooligans' right.

This period during the 90s, in terms of child stardom, consisted mainly of the likes of: Macaulay Culkin, Edward Furlong, Elijah Wood and Brad Renfro. Then presiding over them were the slightly older River Phoenix and Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s clips like this which truly re-emphasise just how lucky we are to have KZfaq, as it continues to preserve priceless footage such as this forever. Who’d’ve thought, even in the 90s, just how invaluable taping something onto VHS would become, especially given what it’s evolved into. It’s true when people say that KZfaq is the closest thing we’ve got to a time machine, which is just as well when the past is preferable to both the present and such an uncertain future (however I’m speaking personally about my own current situation when I say that).
