Agreed, this is a great movie. I first seen it in theaters myself, went in with expectations he was the monster.

He didn't need a redemption arc because there was nothing to redeem. Edward was manipulated into picking the lock at Jim's house, and that was the only wrong thing he did the whole movie. Him killing Jim at the end was completely in self defense. The townsfolk need a redemption arc if anything, lol.

They became friends when Price agreed to narrated Burton's first Disney short VINCENT, and sadly EDWARD SCISSORHANDS was the only other time they worked together. Burton was originally going to cast Price to play Santa Claus in NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, but at that point, his voice was described by Burton as "deeply sad and far too quiet" and it simply didn't work well; Price died not long after those recordings

Oddly enough, the majority of Vincent's film were not horror. He'd been acting since the 40's. It's just that the horror pictures are the ones everyone remembers.

Vincent Price suffered from emphysema and was in a wheelchair near the end. His daughter took him to the boardwalk one day, and a homeless guy recognized him, yelling "Vincent! Vincent!" Eventually he caught up to them. It was Johnny Depp.😅

The first time I ever saw or heard Vincent was from "The Hilarious House of Frightenstein". Loved his work from then on.

It was almost shocking for me watching this film the first time seeing Anthony Michael Hall playing an out of control jock bully, considering his previous typecast roles. He did a really great job in this.

I love “Benny and Joon” along with “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”.

Benny and Joon is an ALL-TIME FAVORITE movie. Every time it's on tv, we leave it on there...because the stand-out acting from EVERYONE! Johnny Depp, Mary Stuart Masterson, Aidan Quinn, Julianne Moore, Oliver Platt, etc. But it's all the awesome character acting in this movie for me.

@@87ventus that's a good Outer Limits episode. Unrelated but another interesting Outer Limits was Cry of Silence where a couple is terrorized by nature in a rural setting. Turns out it was an alien entity that was lonely and just attempting to make contact thru animals and objects around them.

It was released in theaters in December of 1990, so yeah, practically was a "Christmas movie"

For Halloween? Oh... no no no guys someone fed you the wrong idea on what any of this movie is about.. there is no horror, no Halloween, it's more like a Christmas movie ... " Then I made myself laugh and thought ... " Like Die Hard " lol. But yeah, long story short, I always thought of this as Christmas related, unless I'm mistaken I think the once a year when it snows the old lady mentions I think it's supposed to be during Christmas time.

Good point! They would have still used him. She gave him freedom from that, because she loved him.

I view it as a brothers grimm type story that could have been set in medieval times and made a lot more sense. A character that was completely isolated and alone got to be a part of the community and show his, for lack of a better word, beauty. It's porn for the isolated, good people in a sense.

Sweeney Todd is so good and it's doesn't get the attention it deserves. Can really feel all the deep emotions in the singing in a way most musicals don't go to.

Depp's Todd was okay, but nothing beats the Angela Lansbury version.

My vote for the best Burton/Depp collaboration would be The Corpse Bride, or at least the best after this one.

I think the theme of being different, misjudged and misunderstood is strangely something that has tended to follow Johnny Depp around in real life. Its like art imitating reality! He was more a rocker who became an actor but was never going to fit the squeaky clean male lead people wanted him to be having had a difficult, unstable childhood, constantly changing schools (being the new kid trying to fit in!). When he made money and bought the Viper Room within 6 months River Phoenix OD'ed outside and he was basically blamed in the press even though he wasn't there, all reports were that River was already unwell on the way in and he had only been in the club an hour. He was unfairly given a bad boy image that followed him around. However most especially of course this theme with the Amber Heard drama of the last few years. Some people, especially the media, just assumed all crazy lies she was telling were true even though, in reality, the evidence showed they made no sense at all. He had unfortunately managed to become entangled with one of the most toxic, unstable, women you could possibly meet. She was very abusive and manipulative towards him and was taking advantage of him. The trial in the UK was absurdly biased against him like something out of a medieval witch trial and even when the jury in the US cleared him 6 years later the main stream media still insisted on spewing inaccurate, negative, miss information about him. Its so much like Edward Sissorhands situation of this film - art weirdly imitating reality!! Hopefully all the toxicity and mis judgement is behind him, but probably like Edward he'll always be the outsider at heart!

Practical Magic is a must see. Dianne West and Stockard Channing (Grease) are wonderful as the aunts. Also, the director is Griffin Dunne who played Jack Goodman in American Werewolf in London.

@@worthybutter2004 I know I wasn't asked but I have. Still I prefer Gene Wilder and the 1971 cast for the Willy Wonka movies. Even if the remake was along the book, it was still better told, better set design, better acted by the cast and adapted in the 1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Just the Factory alone is amazing. It's a wonderful tone than the one made with Johnny Depp (and I love Johnny Depp).
