The neighborhood women line up to have Edward (Johnny Depp) cut their hair.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands opens as an eccentric inventor (Vincent Price) lovingly assembles a synthetic youth named Edward (Johnny Depp). Edward has all the essential ingredients for today's standard body, with the exception of a pair of hands. For what is initially thought to be a temporary period, he is fitted with long, scissor-like extremities that, while able to trim a mean hedge, are hardly conducive to day-to-day life. When the kindly inventor dies, however, Edward is left lonely and cursed with some very heavy metal for hands. He is eventually taken in by Peg Boggs (Dianne Weist), an Avon lady who takes pity on him after seeing his bleak existence. Edward, in spite of his inherent ability to slay anyone he comes across, is a gentle soul whose only wish is to be loved. His impromptu family has, at best, a limited understanding of Edward, but he finds himself drawn to Peg's weary but sympathetic daughter, Kim (Winona Ryder), who is dating Jim (Anthony Michael Hall), the neighborhood bully. Meanwhile, Edward finds himself a local celebrity after the town realizes that his talents include creative hedge trimming and an unrivaled ability to cut hair. His so-called friends are proven fair-weather when Edward is accused of a crime, after which his only supporters are Peg and Kim.

Unfortunately, this clip doesn't show the last scene of the sequence, when Edward cleans the chair and helps Peg sit down. I've always thought that moment is extremely beautiful. It summarizes very well the friendship between them. "Edward Scissorhands" is full of this kind of small details that help make the film so rich and timeless.

Just watched this movie on Demand. It was a touching movie. I felt sorry for the poor guy. It was so nice and thoughtful how the lady took him into her home. And I love admiring the setup of the movie. It makes me feel like I was actually in the 70s. Really was nice

In watching a discussion with and the move above was mentioned and he was asked how he played him. Johnny Depp replied that it was like the pure innocence of kids. That’s how I have always seen JD pure. Not a thing to do with lifestyle but his inner soul. What kind and humble man he seems 💯 to be.

+Chen Sarah Probably because all the women are so interested in him because they have never met a person with scissorhands which is why he was put on television having scissorhands which made him special. Also, she loved the way Edward cut her dogs fur. (On the television one of the audience members said that if he had regular human hands he wouldn't be on TV and that nobody would think he was special with Peg Boggs saying that no matter what, Edward will always be special).

Caesaroid Either maybe because Joyce knows her dog has clean fur (that is, if she gave the dog a bath before seeing Edward) and/or maybe Edward told Joyce that his scissorhands just got washed by a Boggs family member. Or, maybe she doesn't care if Edward has clean scissorhands or not because, all the women in the neighborhood are in love with him all because of him having scissorhands. In answer to your question, yes, it would be considered unhygienic Edward cutting her hair with his scissorhands especially since Edward has been using his scissorhands on food, bushes, and other messy things however, maybe after Joyce's haircut from Edward, she at least took a shower. (I know most people take a shower after getting a haircut at the barbershops because people say that the scissors, hairbrushes, etc. never get cleaned in barbershops since they have been used on millions of people around the world who could have very dirty hair).

What most folks don't seem to get is that this film is depicting entirely fictitious events which took place in Kimberly Boggs' granddaughter's mind after she told her this sad, modern gothic fairytale on the Christmas Eve of 1990. That is why the setting and characters felt and appeared contemporary to the late 80's yet also very retro like the late 50's. It's a child's way of imagining her much younger grandmother from a limited modern lense and perhaps Edward didn't even exist and was just Kim's resentment of a rocky marriage to Jim, and the regret that she didn't settle down with her ideal lover: a gentle, handsome and artistic man who compensated for his flaws beautifully in spite of letting his limitations limit who he was and the love he felt for her.
