I’am old enough to have seen Desmond Dekker in 1969, at the Royal Tottenham London, famous venue for the Dave Clark Five. Saw Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff in the 1970’s, great memories, little did I know that we would be hearing them all these years later! Was in Koh Lanta in 2007 I think we paid 150baht for a beach bungalow and a great reggae bar that looks like the Freedom Bar, so it hasn’t changed that much!

Stayed at Kata beach twice on Phuket and right at the very end of the beach, far left if looking out to sea is the most fabulous Reggae bar I’ve 3ver seen…..built into the rocks and under massive trees right by the beach……superb! a must visit if you’re there, especially at night

Another tourist island, another beach & probably got another fire dancer on the beach in the evening. Island hoping is not for me but to each their own . As a one time skin head I agree with you about Jimmy Cliff.

Anywhere beach on anywhere island in Thailand

For sure, this is a cool island for retirement 😀

I've been twice, first in 2014 and again in 2017. It was quite different the second time due to lanta having a bridge connection. Meaning that you can drive there and not necessarily get a ferry there. There have also been a couple of big hotels built. Which is a shame as the true beauty of the island is that it is more untouched than the other islands.

I was there for 10 days in dec 2017. The funky monkey bar will be up your street Ed if it's still there and the same as it was, live bands playing rock music and a good crowd 👍

Looks like an awesome island! Not really into the weed or shrooms, or reggae for that matter, so it might not be right for me. However, I love the rustic look of the place. Much prefer that than the places with new shopping malls everywhere and people trying to sell you stuff left, right and center.

Hi Eddy, definitely a budget hotel.

Looks sound ! ...Nice way to get away from the rat race. You'll most likely get high on passive smoking. :-) Mushrooms are a good experience and had them a few times in the past in Lake Toba, Sumartra, Indonesia and bali. Maybe once or twice throughout the years and not something I would have constantly as tripping all the time would be just too hazy. I find them give you a real good perspective in looking at life in a positive and nice clever way of experiencing things in the future and fun too. It broardens the mind. And only an experience you feel. I was with a young lad from Wales who was also a teacher and clever lad. Even saw him in Philly for a meet up time of year of school holiday breaks. He didn't smoke and occasianally drank sensibly and pretty well educated. The 2nd morning in Bali we arranged to meet for coffee and for something to eat. Then he was on the mushroom shakes again LOL !! He never took any other subtances at all through his life and clean healthy living. Mushrooms are funny but like I was younger back in the day it is said that you may have 1 out of 3 not so good experiences that can freek you out. With my experinces in the past I never really had that but your mind playing tricks on you and not to take anything seriously. Good to be around friends to be there in your company and know about the effects and just guide you in a nice open space were they can be seen.....maybe on the beach of an evening away from the bar and noise to come down alittle so to speak. It broadens the mind. You soon come around. In Lake Toba, I was in a jolly girls and boys teachers holiday season break away as a group. One British/ English / Pakistan mainly origin lad who was muslim was always a laugh in work and out of it. Sound lad and well educated. Beatutful Lake Toba and lovely quaint lanes and bars of families and hardly any tourists at all. Stunning place that had everything with a great central resaurant inbetween the shops. He tried mushroom tea a few times and I was taken back to be honest as he was a real muslim of faith. One night back at the bungalows he knocked on my door after us all went to retire for the night and a mushroom egg omlete ect. He was claiming he was freaking out too much but saying it in a funny way and was laughing about it. He said " You scousers are all the same, your nuts" LOL !!! He said he needs to come out of his trip because it was too freaking as he was laughing but serious in a way. Over the road was a local shop where the old ladies played board games on their porch from our balcony. I said to my muslim mate that he needed fresh orange juice to bring him down and not feel to out of it. As I led him across the balcony to go down the stairs to go over to the shop he 'Stood on the balcony shouting over to them waving his arms in the air "Juice, juice, I need orange juice." like he was in the sea with a rubber floatation ring around his waist. LOL :-) :-) Halerious to me and them. We walked over and sat with the other parts of their family evening board games while the daughters fixed up orange juice. The women didn't seem that much concerned and probably seen all this kind of thing before and concentrated on their games mainly. They knew he was a funny nice guy from knowing him a few days before shopping etc. He sat drinking 3 tall glasses of fresh orange juice when only one would probably do. Within around 5 minutes he came right back down to a level he felt fine again. :-)

Was in Koh Lanta on my first trip in 1997. Looks like it's expanded quite a bit. Glad to see no high rises. Did a scuba diving trip from there out to Phi Phi Noi. Fantastic dive, heard the bottom is destroyed now. You should try some rumpy pumpy while on the spliff. Different dimension totally! Any local talent?

I need to be there so much right now ! This crazy azz world is making it hard to enjoy life !

I love Reggae but the music never feels as good as when you're in Jamaica. There you can get the whole variety of that music

Koh Jum the next island is probably a less know and undeveloped Island

Much better accomadation value the that mosquito infested bamboo hut you stayed in on Ko Lipi
