One thing I'll say for the Oscar announcements: there's a palpable excitement in the room when nominations are announced. The BAFTAs are so dry and emotionless.

I'm a bit surprised by the Mad Max and Charlotte Rampling snub. At least Carol leads these nominations. I suppose the British acting categories are a done deal with the exception of Supporting Actress. I can't see DiCaprio, Ronan or Rylance loosing. But Supporting Actress will be interesting. If Mara's nomination wasn't such a terrible case of category fraud I'd wish she would win. But she's so much leading in Carol.

Every year, all the awards in general have a tendency to all always selecting the same movie a kind of a package. None of the award has something more, something different or a card in a sleeve.

That was funny when that woman who won for costume design couldn't even dress for the occasion and he called her a bag lady... well that's exactly right she did look like one... you're at the BAFTA's she already knew she was up for nomination and you can't find something in your vast costume warehouse to wear... WTF!!!

Can someone please tell me how the hell James Cameron's Avatar, a clichéd, Dances with Wolves-ripoff, CGI-overkill movie can get nominated for Best Film and Best Direction but NOT George Miller's visually masterful, groundbreaking, 90% practical effects film Mad Max Fury Road?? Seriously this is a disgrace for BAFTA

+Calvin Candie hopefully Depp gets the oscar nod on 14th Jan. Deserves it. He actually deserves to win it.

dannysangmathur I deffinitley don't agree with that, I think DiCaprio and Fassbender were considerble better. But Depp does deserve to get nominated cause all Damon did was play Matt Damon with no emotional weight at all. One note does not even cover it.

DiCaprio was obviously good, but ,when is he not? :) For me The Revenant was more of a visual spectacle. An outstanding one too. The main heroes are the director and the cinematographer. Leo was fabulous. But, his character was pretty much one dimensional (as per the script)and that did not offer him much more scope. Any actor with with decent acting skills would have had to endure those chilling conditions and would have performed. And plus it looked like it was Leo the whole time with a beard. Never convinced me that he was Glass. Acting wise, I was left unsatisfied. Fassbender on the other hand, is the surprise here. For me, he did not offer any insight into the darkness of Steve Jobs. All he had to do , was read off Aaron Sorkin's lines in a monotonous and rapid manner. Also this wasn't a biopic and he did look nothing like Steve Jobs. So the whole thing seems pointless. BUT, if he were to get nominated for Macbeth then that would be a sure-lock for the oscar win. Unfornuately, all the majestic performances are not even being glanced at this year.

I know ths is British but where tf is Depp for best actor? Mad Max for best movie? George Miller for best director? Damon didn't deserve a nomination. Hopefully for best actor the oscars include depp (get rid of Damon) and the guy from Son of Saul (who is a fucking kindergarden teacher!!!)

***** I agree Spielberg should not be there either but Adamn McKay?!?!?!? His directing was nothing special, it was the performnaces by Bale and Carell that made htat movie.
