The numbers have a meaning on the markers. For example.. The letters tell what color family the markers are in RV - Red Violet R - Red YR - Yellow Red Y - Yellow YG - Yellow Green G - Green BG - Blue Green B - Blue BV -Blue Violet V - Violet E - Earth N - Neutral Grey T - Toner Grey C - Cool Grey W - Warm Grey And there is a small selection of fluorescent markers Then the two (sometimes more) numbers at the end.. First Number: Indicates the saturation of the marker. 0 is the most saturated, 9 is least saturated. Second number: The brightness number. The lightest colors would have a 0 (some even have 2-4 0s indicating extremely light shades - Ex: E0000, BV000) and 9 indicates the darkest color. I hope this helps you guys understand the numbering system a little better!

i think i read somewhere that the letters indicate the pigments that were mixed to make a certain color, like YR means that they mixed yellow and red, or smth like that. i think it’s super cool!

Hopefully they spot this comment; I love the Copic code system. Ever other alcohol marker brand I've tried has a ridiculous color code/naming system and I never know what color I'm about to use unless I swatch it. When Steph said she doesn't like the code names I was like ???? because how do you know what color you're using?

Here's how the copic color code system works, so you can be fluent in copic. The letters at the beginning correspond to the color family. R = Red, YR = Yellow-Red, Y = Yellow, YG = Yellow-Green, etc. The first number corresponds to the color's saturation. The lower the numbers(0,1,2, etc.), will be more saturated. As opposed to higher numbers(7,8,9,etc.), which are more desaturated. The second number corresponds to the marker's brightness. The lower the number, the lighter it will be. The higher the number, the darker it will be. Sometimes if the marker is very pastel/bright, there will be multiple zeros. (V000, RV0000, etc.) I hope that helped!

I have Copics and Promarkers because I love them both lol. The Copic numbering system can help you to choose blending colours. For example colours from 0000-09 or 20-29 go together but it's harder to blend if there is a gap more than 3 although you can use the tip to tip method to get a better blend. Tip number two (I only learnt this one this week on one of the official Copic channels) is called the 10+2 method where you pick a colour then add 12 to it to pick your next blending colour, eg start with 13 then the next colour would be 25 the 37. Also did you know you can mix and match your markers? You don't exclusively have to use Copics with Copics, you can use them with your Ohuhus and Promarkers and whichever other markers you have :) Oh I just remembered one more tip, using greys under your colours to add shadows when you don't have blending families. It's best to swatch test this before you do it as some work better with warm greys some cool and then you need to pick the best darkness level as well. I can see you are joining the dark side with your marker addiction... Welcome lol!

All those copic markers!! :O so jealous!! I think the strange code names on the markers are named by the pigment used to create the colours - like watercolours. So that in theory like with watercolours you can use the same pigment code no matter the brand to find the same colour as the water colour brands use different names for the same colour. R = red, Y = yellow, V = violet, G = green etc. E is probably for earth, I guess? XD and then YR would mean a yellow red or YG is yellow green etc. hope that helps with the “logic” behind the names :)

The way Copic codes work are: (Let's use B29 - Ultramarine) B = The Colour range (Blue) 2 = Blending Group (If you want to blend the markers with other colours, try to blend them with colours on the same blending group (Every colour family has them (They go from 0 - 9))) 9 = The Intensity of the colour (With blue it is like how blue it is, bigger numbers meaning it's bluer) This Works with any Copic marker Type or Colour. HELLO FROM THE SOUTH-WEST OF ENGLAND AS WELL! 😂

Also, if you want the same colour as Terracotta, try to use the Japanese Copic App (In English of course) and use it to take a photo of the Terracotta. It will suggest the colour that is the closest. 😃

Since you like drawing armour, Adam, I recommend learning to blend the markers to get that smooth metallic shine. With brush nibs it's easier than bullet nibs, so now is the time. Basically, just quickly colour on top of the previous layer before it has dried, and go back and forth with the previous marker and the next one. I think I remember Steph having a colourless blender there somewhere, too, to get those light colour fade into nothing.

I don't know if you will see my twitter post, so I will also share my findings here~ I think E07 Light Mahogany might be a better match to Ohuhu's terracotta. I do not own that Ohuhu marker; however, when comparing E07 to E13, E07 is just a smidgen darker and more red in color. It might not be an exact match, but maybe closer?

ShayTheKittay if alcohol markers are a medium you know you like them I would definitely say go for it!! They last a long time, and even so they’re refillable, so if you use them a lot it’s definitely worth it. They have so many colors too, lots of light and dark tones so you’ll probably have any color you could ever want as you expand your selection. And started with ciao is a good idea cause they’re cheaper, they’re a little smaller than the sketch and come in less colors but it’s good for beginners. But if you know you’re going to love them and collect a lot then sketch might be better cause in the long run they hold my ink and are a little nicer. I hope this helps!!

The colour coding is quite simple when one first gets into it; the letters are for the colours used like Y are Yellow, R are Red, B are blue and so on, and when there's combination like YR it's Yellow Red which is obviously orangesque colours ! There are some sites online that goes deeper into the coding of the pens that are quite easy to understand

Im a avid copic user, primarily because I get majority of my collection as gifts or they were on sale xD. But yea, the numbers and letters are a lot more helpful for when you need to get specific replacements and when you need to find colors in the same color family. Very helpful but also happy you guys are trying copics out!

Hey Steph, my hands shake really bad too especially when I draw. I always use really thick lines in my art to cover it up, and even though I like my style, it's sometimes disappointing that I can't draw with thin lines. It is encouraging to hear other artists talk about having the same problem, though, so thanks for being real with us. Love your videos. You two are so fun. Have a nice day.

I know that color, you love it because the pigment its super pure, vibrant and consistent (you cant see little white spots when you use it), im pretty sure that is E07 light Mahogany or E19 Redwood (its the same pigment but with a slightly different heat treatment). In the color chart of copic looks pretty dull but its almost like a burnt sienna in person.

Store your markers on their sides! It keeps them from having one side that's drier than the other, so instead of having a crusty chisel tip and a super liquidy brush nib, the ink is more evenly distributed. I didn't know about the circle thing, though! I gotta try that!

the codes are abbreviations for the colors ie R=red and YR= orange etc. i dont really use markers frequently but i recently bought six copics. The reason i know this is through watching plenty of people coloring with them and noticing a pattern of abbreviations

To get the most of your copics, you should really be using a good marker paper. Mix media paper soaks the ink too quickly, where as a marker paper will stay wet, and let you blend the colors and create a smooth gradient. This blending is what makes copics the best markers

My best friend just got a bunch of Copics and she’s so excited. She’s been drawing and colouring with them from the minute she opened them. She has definitely experimented more with the Copics then she has with any other markers/coloured pencils. I mean, she did love my markers, but I mean, Copics are the _best_ markers ever.
