My biggest problem with saw after 2 is that the traps are not made to survive. Yes, some of them you can kind of escape, but not without wounding yourself a lot. There's no test there. There's not even a test related to their "crimes" aside from a countdown that you have to wait out because... patience... You could have the gore with traps that are possible to survive and actually test your flaws, where you have to use your brain to figure things out and the people die because they make a mistake or hesitate too long or misinterpret something. It still could be a little unfair depending on what it is, but it's way fairer than what we get.
@snakeguy86469 ай бұрын
So, ok, I’m not too well versed in Saw Lore, but from what I know that was supposedly intentional? As in Jigsaws traps that he made were meant to be escapable, but his disciples didn’t share Kramers ideals so they just made unfair traps to copycat Jigsaw but mainly just kill people. Now the validity to this whole thing is not certain, but it’s something I guess?
@Soapy-chan9 ай бұрын
@@snakeguy8646 Well I would accept it for the later saw movies (though it'd be nice if the movies explain that, e.g. a cop says these traps are weird and the other cop says that his henchmen are crazier), but in 2-4 jigsaw is still directly involved, just not setting it up personally, but he makes the tapes still.
@snakeguy86469 ай бұрын
@@Soapy-chan Yeah this is a very convoluted string of lore, but apparently Hoffman at least knows how to recreate Kramers original Jigsaw voice for tapes, so it’s left up to interpretation just how involved Kramer was besides that first one he swallowed. But we also know that Amanda supposedly set up parts of 2’s traps, and all of 3’s traps, Hoffman sets up 4’s

Consistently coming up with fair tests that are interesting and not repetitious for the enjoyment of the audience is hard. On the other hand, coming up with gory and weird torture/gore pr0n devices is easy. I guess the writers were "smart" enough to figure out how to justify their inspirational shortfall by writing the change in trap/test quality into the story. I guess it's the shark jump moment for the series.

About Hoffman. That... doesn't seem to make much sense to me. I mean, the "gambit" was that if the ice melted Hoffman died electrocuted. So if Riggs hadn't barged in, I'm pretty sure he'd be dead. And if he doesn't die, it'd be pretty obvious the trap was rigged in such a way that he would never be in any real danger. I mean, at that point if Brigg opens the door he lives and if Brigg doesn't he still lives. If I were a cop and saw that situation I'd start making questions.

@RedStar_N79 ай бұрын
Wasn't it implied in the last one that Amanda had been modifying the traps to make them practically unsolvable? All his tapes make sense if you imagine they were made with the original design in mind. And it answers the question as to why Amanda's test was so easy compared to the ones that came after, and why John was rather surprised Jeff was getting through his traps so quickly. From a directing perspective, whats the point of making such meticulous traps if we dont see them go off? Either way, its as if she and Hoffman became stand ins for the writers because they prioritize the intricate traps and the gore that follows, over the point their master want to make. Like they recognized the broad audience doesnt care about the story in the slightest and this was their excuse

Its kinda sad how the world agrees with the motivations of Jigsaw. They justify and reinforce his decisions and judgements almost as a universal constant. Like, you could probably set the same premise and traps up just to confirm that Johns psychotic and deluded. A grieving and wronged man who actually has a bonkers warped view of morality. Set it up to examine and test others deluded and hypocritical behaviors. Focus on how the followers warp their perspective to insanity to follow a warped image and personal interpretation of his philosophy. Or either make Jigsaws victims actually deserving of the traps so you're more comfortable indulging in karmic schadenfreude like the new one, or have the ideology just be a vague smokescreen for other motivations like Spiral.

For all that they keep harping on about his bizarre code of conduct as though it's a legitimate philosophy, these films seem to be less and less about Jigsaw's supposed "lesson" and ever more about excuses to kill people. "Oh, this person did this thing wrong", "this person is someone you don't like", "kill that person to be free". I thought it was supposed to be about valuing your life, not dumb revenge porn (by far my least favourite "genre") in a hundred flavours?

it's clear they bit off more than they could chew in basically every aspect. this is the prime example of a franchise that lost it's fuel quickly: - the 'philosophy' is in shambles: it's less and less about that, often the reason behind the victims is nonsense - they try with the traps too hard, and they sometimes seem funny like the iceblock - the traps are stupidly designed - the victims don't behave smartly - the chronology is a big ? for the sake of twists all in all, they clearly tried to go on for the money, but the creators weren't smart enough and they had too few elements to expand on to begin with

I hope we see more of YMS/Adum, even with the fallout. I like EFAP's and YMS's content and collabs

is there even a fallout or is it both fanbases pretending there is one?

@@Soapy-chani think thats a bit more accurate. Ive seen a few people primarily from Adums audience fall into the Efap community and stir up trouble to go back to their servers to harp on about "those sorts of people that Mauler cultivates"

Mauler and crew let Adum air out his beef against Critical Drinker without antagonizing him. He made himself look like a fool without them having to shake him down. I'm sure even if Adum feels miffed about the experience, they'll talk it out and hash things out so we can get more collabs. You can leave the EFAP family, but it never leaves you.

Funny story, so in the house we only had the first 3 Saw movies, and i didnt know how to find movies to watch online yet. Watched them all and was super curious about how everything continued but i had no means of finding out without buying the 4th one so i just left it. Week or 2 later i was taking bottles to a glass recycling place, and for whatever reason someone had thrown out a Saw 4 DVD. Took it home to watch it and it started bugging out and failing about half way through. Freaks me out and i broke the disk in half and threw it out

With so many doors being opened to a new room, this movie (when I saw it back in the day and with this video reaffirming it) is a Bethesda movie, each door felt like a loading screen

There is a completely unrelated movie called *"Phonebooth"* that I would highly recommend if you like even just the idea of the SAW movies. That movie is nearly *identical* to the SAW franchise but Phonebooth executes the concept of what the SAW movies are 'trying' to do 1000x better than any of the 10 movies. Phonebooth isn't labeled as a horror though. It's a psychological thriller (which I prefer because that means there is more tension rather than jump scares). The killer has ZERO problem being considered a murderer even if the targets just get themselves killed. And he even acknowledges killing actual innocent people (loved ones of his targets) should his targets fail at confession and redemption for their crimes. Colin Farrell and Keith Sutherland are fantastic in it. And the movie doesn't plague the viewers with the stupid artificial moral grey zone of 'is jigsaw actually killing anyone though?'. Pretentious franchise that thinks the movies are smarter than they actually are. EDIT: Phonebooth movie is currently free on youtube 👍

I would love for the EFAP crew to do reactions to the entire Hellraiser series. There's a couple of genuinely great films and many, many more god awful sequels. It would make for a very entertaining series of reaction videos.
