Yes madam I’ve brought 10 dimmers and 15 different makes of LED gu10s and I’ll be here for 6hours. Methinks the industry needs a standard alphabet system that states what can be used with what. EG Crompton “C” with these dimmers eg varilite , Hamilton etc Seems like shooting in the dark at the moment, excuse the pun😂😊 Keep up the vids boys

Yes we do, although that still will not help the people who put non dimmable lights on a dimmable circuit and then have strobing issues.

@@bertiebassett1972 I'm in the US and used to work with a nonprofit/band that would rent out a hotel conference room once a month. one of their can lights got swap for non-dimmable LED and they're like yeah I does that so... Oh wait I think that was the same response I got from somebody trying to claim that diming the lights used more energy and had the same response to one of their lights been swapped out. The non-technical people out there don't care they just assume that's the way it's supposed to work and go on life trying to ignore the fact that it annoys them.

Great video, I have the exact same CRI97 Philips Master GU10 and it was really helpful. By the way, LIDL recently introduced their own CRI97 GU10 lamps, costing 10 times less than the Philips... dimmable, too.

I know here in the US, there are some LED lamp manufacturers whose LED bulbs are compatible with both types of dimmers (leading and trailing). My go to dimmer is Lutron Triac and ELV types.

Hi, Awesome video explains very well, thank you and much appreciated. Do you which bulb GU10 would be the best to use with the Sonoff D1 dimmer?
@mathman01013 жыл бұрын
Very well explained nice use of the oscilloscope. Your point is important care is needed to ensure compatibility between lamps and dimmers. It would have been to cover WiFi dimmers and specific issues around then. Also one are that was not covered I would like to see more about is the power quality issues their ability to generate harmonics and transients - leakage of this chopped waveform onto nearby located circuits say a light dimmer resistive load and nearby performance of day inductive loads like a vacuum cleaner or even hairdryers. That has two advantages one better brands do invest in keeping that leakage low and second showing electricians the importance of accounting for power quality issues. Very nicely set up and clear display well done to all involved.

We will look at wifi\smart dimmers when we can get hold of a few decent ones 😀

Is also the aspect of interference with audio systems with the harmonics in the electrical system.

Excellent videos gents. I've just been binge-watching your LED strip presentations - fantastic. Now, this video is the FIRST one I've seen that talks about LED lamp compatibility with leading edge phase cut. I've very relieved!! My home has the Dynalite system with halogens. I thought I'd have to swap that or the transformers to drivers. But now you say, I can just swap the LED 'bulbs'. Q: am I correct, and how does one tell which fittings will work/dim? Surely something in the globes' specs would give it away? Again, thoroughly enjoying these videos - keep going. J.
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
The only thing that may cause issues with the Dynalite is the minimum load. Manufacturers sometimes publish compatibility charts. Our suggestion would be to pick a lamp from Philips or OSRAM ( Ledvance) as they tend to perform best.
@jonathanm94363 жыл бұрын
@@efixx Thank you very much for your reply and your suggestion - I'll definitely do this!! Halogens of course use an electronic transformer between the fitting and the phase-cut supply - would I need to change this?

Hi Guys, Good videos. Ive been using Philips WarmGlow Dimmable GU10 LED, 3.8 W - 50W Equivalent, 2700 - 2200K. I put them on a BG dimmer controlling 4 of the GU10s and had no problem. The BG dimmer has a minimum load of 5 watts. But the same dimmer had a problem with a Philips 8 W E27 lamp even after adjusting the trimmer at the back, got flickering at a certain spot. I think some dimmers just won't work with very low load.

Lets hope over time the compatibility of a new lamp is within spec of the same lamp after a duration of service (of these new lamps upon eventual failure within its guaranteed service life) ie. still dim within resonable observable brightness between lamps. (or bulbs if a variety of bulbous shape lamp exist)

Hi Guys thank you for that, I recently changed a dimmer for a failed one controlling 4 down lighters, 3 had dichroic lamps and one LED lamp, guess what, different dimming pattern. The new Aurora dimmer module had a small adjustment dial on the side which helped smooth the LED. Could you explain the workings of this particular situation

These LED bulbs are GU10. Mine are all MR16, the low voltage one that requires additional driver/transformer/adapter. Will any of these dimmer work with MR16? I tried replacing to MR16 LEDs in one room, the old dimmer caused all LEDs to blink, I had to remove the dimmer in the end.

Is there any instruction or symbol on the side of the lamp, to say it requires a leading or trailing edge dimmer?
@efixx3 жыл бұрын
Not on the lamp it usually says dimmable with a small asterix * - which will mention a compatibility chart on the manufacturers website. If you check out this you'll see a list of dimmers, minimum dim percentage and type of dimmer - leading / trailing.
