He was decribed exactly like that in the book. Like a man hidden in the darkness of his hood while smoking his pipe and watching the hobbits intensivly until the light of his pipe briefly revealed his deep dark eyes. The scene was intentional to be the same as in the book.

I love how Aragon is established in this scene. Starting off as a shady and mysterious individual and then once he reveals himself, you realize that despite being mysterious, he is the best hope the Hobbits have inorder to stay alive due to Gandalf being imprisoned in the tower. Such a beautiful setup for a man who would later become the king of Gondor.

This scene is a great adaptation of the book. Of course the chapter has been condensed (by a lot) but Aragorn's mysterious yet friendly nature is almost 1 to 1 with the source material. The way he's sitting in the back with only his pipe lighting up his face is straight out of the book.

@@ShadowMoon878 Makes sense why Jackson created a small riff between the people who played the hobbits. Lots of little things Jackson did, that make this movie so legendary. When at the time, the actors thought he was kind of crazy and put them through a lot of unnecessary danger, and hoops to jump through. When in reality it was to squeeze the best performance out of each actor by putting them through some really harsh conditions. It really came through the characters and made the difference between just a normal trilogy and LoTR Trilogy. IMO the best thing to ever come out of Hollywood. Blows Star Wars/Star Trek out of the water.

Yup, another fun fact, due to the late casting of Viggo Mortensen as Aragon. When filming the bit where Sam says "That fellow has done nothing but stare at you since we arrived" he's literally pointing to no one. Which is why the hobbits and Aragorn aren't in the same frame at any point in this scene, not until a later scene in the tavern in Bree.

I believe "The Void" is the outer space where his master Morgoth currently exists after he was taken prisoner by the Valar and cast through the Door of Night into the timeless void. It's really the only thing Sauron has to fear in a worst case scenario, but even Morgoth is supposed to return eventually. Or maybe Sauron is talking about the Wraith Realm that Frodo exists within when he puts on the Ring.

"Suddenly Frodo noticed that a strange-looking weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall, was also listening intently to the hobbit-talk. He had a tall tankard in front of him, and was smoking a long-stemmed pipe curiously carved. His legs were stretched out before him, showing high boots of supple leather that fitted him well, but had seen much wear and were now caked with mud. A travel-stained cloak of heavy dark-green cloth was drawn close about him, and in spite of the heat of the room he wore a hood that overshadowed his face; but the gleam of his eyes could be seen as he watched the hobbits."

I watched it for the first time in February of 2021, so it hasn't been that long. My sisters were crazy over lotr when I was little, but they insisted I had to wait until I was older to read it so I could fully appreciate it, so every birthday I celebrated being a year closer to reading LOTR. It's so dang good. When I opened the book for the first time, I was afraid that I'd be disappointed after waiting for it for so long, but my expectations were far surpassed. Same with the movies.

One thing I wish they had kept in the movie, that I understand removing, is that there were plenty of hobbits living in or near Bree. The men of Bree didn't care, and seeing a couple of hobbit travelers is not even worth noting. I understand why they changed it for the film, to make the audience a little uneasy that the hobbits are so isolated and different, but it would have been nice to show that there was plenty of interactions between the hobbits and the big folk.

Fun idea for a drinking game during a LOTR marathon: Every time Pippin does or says something dips**t, pour a shot, raise it to the screen as if in toast, and proclaim, "Well, I guess that rules you out, Pip!" or "Fool of a Took!". Frickin' hilarious with a bunch of friends. When he does something extraordinarily brave, like when he tries to stand up to the Witch King or he and Meriadoc charge behind Aragorn at the last stand at the Black Gate, pour a shot, raise it high and yell, "DEFENDER OF THE CITADEL!"

I've always loved how they show Frodo needing to put in a great deal of effort in order to remove the ring. Just subtle stuff like that really helps portray the ring as a powerful artifact despite its size.

@@Dragonfire1911 That was a Bounder, one of the two types of law enforcement in the Shire (the Shiriffs being the other). Their job is to keep dangerous people and animals from entering the Shire. So the Nazgul would've considered the Bounders a hindrance to their search for the One Ring. Besides, if the Nazgúl were supposed to kill everyone in the Shire, they would've brought an army with them to do it.

Ive maybe missed something and don’t remember from reading the books if it’s in there, how does Aragorn know who Frodo is, his name and that he’s waiting on Gandalf with the ring? Or did he just overhear what they said at the bar.
