Vancouver built the Canada Line in 4 years, it's longer than Eglington Crosstown, it passes through a mountain and the densest urban area in all of Canada, it costed half the price, and it's completely grade separated. What is Toronto's major malfunction?

Not just Vancouver. Montreal's REM was opened 5 years (--yes, slightly longer than Vancouver, but still--) after initial announcement to Inauguration of the first phase of the project.

I will always understand why provincial governments of the day get blasted for decisions made by previous governments: that's politics. But this is not a Ford government problem: this is an SNC-Lavalin and TTC problem. They are the sole reason CTSC is behind on completion of construction, and the reason TTC operators haven't been trained yet to operate the new cars (which could take up to a year, along with the certification and road-testing/burn-in of each LRV) Technically, this really is a City Hall problem. And since TTC commissioners are largely made up of councillors, that they willfully ignored the problems the TTC created: instead pinning it on the province, those commissioners are the ones who should be held to account, not the province. Infrastructure Ontario, Metrolinx (love 'em or hate 'em), and other Crown agencies or commissions, were always ahead of the game, and knew exactly what needed to be done. The financial penalties that CTS faces now (caused by the TTC's delays) might be enough to drive SNC out of business for good - unless PM Harry Belafonte gives them more money and free passage of the law...again. Verster is the scapegoat because he draws a huge salary. I think people don't fully understand the purpose of Metrolinx: we see what they're doing in TO, and that's it. They're legitimately - and at long last - building real transit solutions across the entire province, especially in the GTA. They're finally living up to their promise (and one of the 4 or 5 promises McGuinty actually kept). Verster's salary isn't "a million dollars", but he earned every penny. CTSC, as a whole, is not wholly responsible either: just their "25%" partner, SNC-Lavalin. Ordinarily, I love the idea of P3 partnerships, that don't affect the taxpayer as hard as a taxpayer-funded project would. However, all this proved to anyone was: "know who your partners really are". And maybe do a better job vetting your partners, if you're really trying to create The Rat Pack of Transit in Ontario. Historically, the best builders of rapid transit in Ontario - and even in North America - have always been, ironically, the TTC. If the TTC built this thing themselves, it'd be already safely operating by now. Much as it grinds my gears to say it: the TTC are experts at building rapid transit. We laugh when they got that award and plastered it on subway cars... but they did earn it. If you wanna know why Line 5 isn't operating yet, call your councillor, or a TTC commissioner. Or maybe even ask the "Prime Minister" why he insisted his female justice minister forgo criminal charges against SNC - only to fire her when she didn't oblige, which might've prevented this whole mess from dragging on. Cuz, ya know, it's 2015. And I personally wouldn't ride that thing for the first year - whenever it opens: even after all of the delays, there's gonna be a derailment, there's gonna be serious injury, and it's gonna look so bad for Metrolinx, it might force it's disbandment (and certainly bring an end to Verster's career).

So the people in Ottawa used to think that their transit was an embarrassment, but nothing compares to what is going on in Toronto wth this project.....3 years late , 13 years in the making and going nowhere.....seriously don't ever ask why this is not a first class city....

For those who want to know the date is actually one year after the finch line starts. Good things take time👍not sure why this date needs to be hidden as dates are ALWAYS subject to change most people understand this and we don't care about the ones who don't 😂

But 3 years late is already too much for a project that was supposed to be only for 9 years construction estimate. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️

@@seferino what do you expect from people who are incompetent and haven't a clue in what they are doing. You trust these people too much. None of them should be in power
