Watching you do this cleaning with ground up walnut shells jogged my memory of an incident involving using walnut shells for cleaning and the crash of a United States Army Chinook helicopter. This illustrates the use of extreme care in the use of this stuff. "On 11 September 1982 at an airshow in Mannheim, Germany, a U.S. Army Chinook (serial number 74-22292) carrying parachutists crashed, killing 46 people. The crash was later found to have been caused by an accumulation of ground walnut shell grit used for cleaning machinery, which blocked lubrication from reaching transmission bearings. The accident resulted in the eventual discontinuation of the use of walnut grit as a cleaning agent."

When I started in the Machining field 30 years ago, one of the senior Machinists(William King RIP 🙏) used to work in the railroad repair industry as well as his Father doing Steam engine repair before him. He used to always use that phrase. When I questioned him about it, he stated his father used the term to make note of how clean the steam whistles were internally when they took them off for restoration. His Dad used to say he never had to clean or re machine any steam whistles internally. He only ever had to regrind or polish the outside because the inside was steam cleaned its entire life. Henc, the "clean as a whistle" ! This was a bit of knowledge he handed down, but man, he had an absolutely limitless amount of machining knowledge. Most of which I still use today. I miss picking his brain and think about him on the regular. Now I'm the old guy and I try my damndest to share knowledge I've learned, but I'll never be as versed as he was about machining and being a all around decent person.

Ray...that is absolutely amazing. I have a turbo GDI engine (EcoBoost) that is notorious for carbon buildup. A local shop that I trust is quoting me something like 8 hours of labor for that same service. The engine is not suffering yet. I am considering this as a DIY project for down the road. The only issue I have is that with a transverse mounted V-6, the far 3 cylinders are most likely a pain to get to. Maybe removing the cowl would do it. So far, Ford has no answer other than induction service that they actually don't recommend for the EcoBoost. The reason is hydrocarbon-based induction services can cause the turbos to overheat and possibly lead to damage.

The American president and the Canadian prime minister are both deciples of the wef that has dictated to the people that by 2030 we will all be driving EV’S, It ain’t gunna happen with out a total rebuild of our electrical grid.

The PCV does leave a puddle in the intake on this gen Prius. Also the EGR cooler is likely the cause of "EGR FLOW BELOW THRESHOLD" and that needs replacement as well to make this repair effective. It could probably be blasted if the walnut is fine enough as it just gets packed 100% full of carbon. There's also a recalibration in the related TSB that supposedly reduces EGR clogging. I did mine recently and improved the mileage ~14% on average without any "Prius driving habits," so to speak.

I agree 100% on the EV discussion, Ive been saying they wont solve the pollution issues ever since the lawmakers or whatever you wish to call them decided we should go all EV. One of my concerns was how they would deal with the 'dead' batteries once swapped out for a good battery. It took them yrs n yrs to work out how to have safe and how to recycle regular AA etc batteries. And those batteries were simply going into landfill for decades. Ever since I saw a video of some guys making a hydrogen power motor bike last year I thought this was the best way forward to help reduce our carbon footprint etc

Walnut blasting at one time was a method to clean gas turbine blades. It worked OK but it destroyed the non metal seals. There are chemicals that do a better job but are expensive. It is good to see there are walnut blasting solutions for the DIY market , but the commenter is correct, the process can cause issues if not done with care. Your videos help instill that knowledge!

Ray, it's the price of Snap On tools that people have a problem with. Harbour Freight sells wrenches with 30° and 60° offsets, which looks like what you were using but I could be wrong. Their set is $70, which I'm sure is a ton cheaper than Snap On. I know there's a ton of quality differences between the 2 sets but Snap On prices are too high for alot of us. Just my two cents. Love your channel and watch your videos daily. Thanks!

Brian started using this setup about a year ago if i recall correctly. Works very well with the 3.5 Ecoboost.
