Got myself a cheap 3.6 tdv8 last week and this is the first job I did to it based on this guide. Watched it through a few times then went and and did it first time with no problems at all...took about an hour and a half. To the casual observer I must have looked like a master mechanic lol. No error messages or fault codes. Seems to pick up so much smoother but then that might just be in my head, Thanks very much for posting this it was invaluable.

Good to see the old Range Rover again. Might be worth mentioning that those with less steady hands than yourself should consider replacing the lower blanking plate first just to avoid dropping anything into the open port. Also just to clarify as I’ve seen it mentioned it’s not actually illegal to delete the EGR valve, the official term is “it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of the EGR will almost invariably contravene these requirements.” There are fines that can be imposed for this, however, as you have already mentioned, the engine cover is not removed at the point of MOT nor would I expect it to be removed should you ever be stopped by the police for any reason. Keep the videos coming 👍🏻

Good video for EGR access instructions (and yes, replace the bottom plate first 😜). I have a TDV8 3.6 2010 L322 and have had my first code thrown on the EGR system (P045D) which is likely that the valve is not closing or shutting without resistance on bank 2. The vehicle will test all these things on start up (0 to 100 or close to on the valves) and if it's sticky will throw the code. The valves may sit at 5% at closed and say 75% when open at idle, but the start up process has shown a sticking valve. So, options are to simply close the valves (with diag tool) and remap to isolate them and get no more restricted performance, blank them off and also remap, or clean the valves and EGR system, which at my kms is probably too far gone, so replacement the other option. Decisions decisions!

Hello mate. thanks for your video. It is very helpful. Is it necessary to modify any parameter in the control unit related to the egr after canceling it with that kit? ... or is it only necessary to put the kit on it ?. Mine is the sport model. But it has the same engine as yours.
@Nut_Job.2 жыл бұрын
In my experience, I had no problems with engine fault codes after blanking the EGR’s. I was actually expecting to need a remap to ‘code’ them out, however I found it wasn’t necessary on my car (however, it may not be the same for you). This model/year (2007) didn’t have a DPF & I know the DPF regen needs the help of the EGR valves, so if you have a DPF it may be different for you - but I’m not certain.
@Zero-xl6zf2 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for the information. my engine has no DPF either. So I guess we are in the same place. Since I am also in 2007. As I have read in many forums, the Ecu needs to be reprogrammed to eliminate the Egr. But it is already known in this, some say one thing and others another. It is always good to have a partner like you to teach things clearly.

@Nut_Job.4 жыл бұрын
Yes, indeed my instructions say that too. It won’t actually give you any engine codes or warning lights though. But it is better to also get them mapped-out so that the actual EGR valves remain closed, because if they continue to open close like mine are now they could still fail/jam open & cause a fault code (but won’t damage anything because they are actually blanked off 😀)

Yes, it’s technically true. And in a perfect world EGR valves can serve their purpose & reduce combustion temperatures, improve economy…. But for the RR L322 particularly, the x2 EGR valves on the 3.6 TDV8 are prone to failure & can have disastrous consequences. With older high-end vehicles like this it is understandable why people don’t want to risk failure for a tiny fuel economy gain 🤷♂️

There aren’t any mate. I was always convinced the car would throw up all sorts of errors... but no. I saw forum posts where people had blanked the EGRs off with plans to follow up by mapping them out, but no errors or warning lights came on?! 🤷♂️

Nut Job thank you, I have an LR3, which is fine but I want a range rover like yours. People say they have too many issues, what is your one sentence advice. Thanks

It’s peoples opinions like those which keep used Range Rover prices nice & low - everyone is afraid of them! They are complex vehicles, definitely - that’s also why they’re so awesome. Try & get one that’s been looked after, not necessarily perfect but in good mechanical condition. Look for clues in the engine bay & underneath for parts which will have needed replacement over the years like intercooler hoses, drive shaft boots etc 👍

Aside from the legal/environmental/emissions related side effects, I'd think twice about doing this on a TDV8, especially a working one. EGR reduces emissions by reducing combustion temperatures, and as the turbos on these engines are marginal at best, I'd do all I could to make life easier for them. I've replaced many many turbos on these over the years, they're a nightmare job, time consuming and expensive. I know I'll get trolled by the 'take off all the emissions junk' warriors,and yes, on some engines it has a huge effect, but on these ones, no thanks....
@Nut_Job.4 жыл бұрын
This was the initial reason I had held off doing anything on this engine. However, I fail to see what damage is ACTUALLY likely to occur... my reasoning (which I accept, may be flawed) is this: EGR allows recirculated exhaust gases back through the intake at lower RPM to reduce NOx formation which occurs above temps of 2000K. The turbo is not properly spooled at this RPM and when you put your foot down, the EGR will close, the turbos will spool up to max and cylinder temperatures will rise - because you’re accelerating. Yes, the engine gets hot during this phase, but your EGR would never normally be open at this point & that’s how the engine is designed. So.... what ACTUAL temperatures and damage are we talking about here? 🤔
@simondrake89094 жыл бұрын
@@Nut_Job. I don't know exact figures or temperatures, and I'm not criticizing your work, but I do know how much these turbos cost. It's your car, just saying that on mine I'd not do it...
@Nut_Job.4 жыл бұрын
I’m not encouraging anyone to do anything.... but since you’re asking, I’ve had absolutely no issues or any perceived difference to the performance of my car. And I’ve actually put at least 500 miles on since blanking the ports now. I’m happy and open to be corrected or proven wrong with my logic regarding cylinder temps, so please don’t think I’m being stubborn or stroppy. I’m no expert in engine design, but I’m just following my own logic + the experience of others too 👍
@Nut_Job.4 жыл бұрын
It’s ok Simon, I wasn’t sure about doing this for a while but the more I thought about it I pretty much convinced myself. I’m no expert & I may be damaging my engine, but I’m reasonably confident it’ll be fine... Seriously, thanks for the comment though 👍

Love your vids but I don’t condone breaking the law and even more just for the hell of it. It’s illegal in the UK 🇬🇧 where you live to do this and more over it pumps cancerous pollution into the environment.
@Nut_Job.4 жыл бұрын
Each to their own Chris & I totally understand your point. Just for clarification though, your statement is not completely accurate. The function of an EGR is to open at low RPM, recycle exhaust gas & hopefully reduce NOx emissions - yes that’s a noble objective, but it doesn’t spew anything more ‘cancerous’ than it was before into the atmosphere. I didn’t do this because I was bored, I did it to prolong my engine’s lifespan - but you’re correct that it doesn’t change it’s ‘legality’
@micheljansen854 жыл бұрын
Adding to that, a warm engine is actually more efficient without EGR valves. Also, there are some more conflicting theories about the engine without the EGR, higher EGT's which lead to all sorts of issues (Mostly turbos)
@Matt4636344 жыл бұрын
DPF deletion is much worse for the environment than this. Ironically Exhaust Gas Recirculation makes soot production worse.
