Welcome back for an exciting one! Let's bust some myths, answer the questions and make some power! This is probably my stupidest idea yet... Only 195,000 miles, no history... What could possibly go wrong?
If this video was somewhat helpful or somehow entertaining?
Then why not drop the video a like, leave a comment and subscribe for more! Or even look back at all the previous L322 upgrades, servicing and content!

Thank you for doing the educational testing on behalf of the rest of us! Very good and detailed info. As you said, these haven’t been well documented for 4.4 TDV8s.

Interesting video Jordan. I dont own one, i dont think i'll be owning one any time soon, but i tuned in as im enjoying the content. I used to work at JLR, engine calibration team, specifically the DPF team..... youve done yourself a favour there, fantastic work. One thing to add. You mention that binning the CAT wont do anything. This isnt quite true. If the v8 is like most other diesels (i didnt work on the TDv8, this was a little before i worked there).. to regenerate the DPF (burn out all the soot), it injects lots of fuel very late in the cycle, that fuel goes out the exhaust and burns in the CAT to generate the heat. So removing the CAT only will eventually result in a blicked DPF. I would agree with some of the ranters that this will now be putting out a bit of soot, and its not great if you leave it idling outside an inner city school. But and its a big BUT it now produces a lot less CO2. Youve swapped long term climate change problem for a shirt term local pollution problem, in my opinion this is better :)

Cheers mate, very good point about the cat! I should have been more clear in the video, my intention was that it wouldn't cause any immediate limp mode/error codes unlike the egr/dpf being tampered with, but as you point out ofcourse if someone was to remove the cat and drive it as is they'd block the DPF :)

Hi had my egr deleted and blanked off,,,,the guy who did it modified a 3.6 blanking kit, really made a difference, as you say smoother, more responsive better mpg and goes like a rocket ...approx 30 round town and 36/38 on run, drove to south Spain last month approximately 3000 miles return and a 1000 miles whilst I was there and didn't miss a beat...great video thanks

I've done a stage 1 mapp on the engine, stage 3 mapp on the ZF Gear box, full egr and dpf delete, 2012 4.4 tdv8 on a long run I'm getting 40mpg, around town I'm getting 30mpg. Also I've serviced the ZF gearbox runs like new... 👍

I'm guessing that's on the trip computer? No mapped car will ever provide an accurate dash figure unless recalibrated. My old TD6 was mapped to 260bhp and claimed nearly 40mpg on a run. Obviously this was complete nonsense and the real world was more like 25mpg.

As you say, The ZF transmission on those is rated to 700Nm. This means it’s designed to operate up to that level and provide a long service life. Even the SVR models are capped at 680Nm, and for good reason. With the DPF and DOC present, the 4.4 TDV8/SDV8 will still readily make far more torque than the transmission can tolerate, and most tuners will post torque figures in the region of 840Nm post remap, with or without the emissions control present. This level of torque will significantly shorten any existing life the gearbox, torque converter and the diffs had in them, especially when the extra performance is enjoyed! 🤪 It’s torque that damages drivetrain components, and at over 840Nm, unless driven like a saint, they’re going to let you down. A replacement gearbox is a mission to install on those, and also very expensive! Your diffs also aren’t cheap to replace, as you’ll discover! I speak from many years of experience in this area. 😉 Given the forthcoming changes to UK legislation and the MOT, it’ll not pass another test unless you reinstate the emissions control systems beforehand. If you now run that car in your garage, the exhaust gasses will take your breath away, whereas before hand it would have been tolerable. God help anyone stuck behind you in the queue at a drive through on a damp day! 🤢 I wish you luck with the channel and I’ll look forward to watching future videos on your journey with this Range Rover. 👍

The ZF8 is actually pretty tough, and the 700NM is pretty conservative. I know quite a few running at 400bhp/and 900NM+ which get hammered and are going strong after solid mileages. Even changing the fluid out regularly doesn't seem to show any real amount of wear to the clutch packs. They're tough, and pretty cost effective to rebuild (c£2k for swapping out all the common wear items). That said I've killed one in a stock 335d with less than 70k that gets the absolute arse driven out of it on country roads in 4th-6th.

Great video Jordan. Don't forget to find the emissions plate and remove it or 'drop' something over it - the likelihood of it passing it's mot at the limit on the plate(0.5m-1) is very slim, but without any evidence it's got to be tested at default(1.5m-1). Of course I didn't tell you this😊😊😊

The DPF And the Cat fitted to cars are a big con,I had a tdi scirocco I had the DPF Cat and EGR Valve mapped out and a sports exhaust fitted I ran the car on Shell V power it passed an mot emissions test with a stage 1 remap,my round trips to work are about 40 miles each day the mpg was about 45mpg.the car was new when It with 50 miles on the clock.I sold it with around 37k to a mate of mine and is still going strong

Technically, if you were to submit a car for mot with a missing CAT/DPF or with evidence of tampering, it's a reason for failure. For science, I had the emissions tested without the cat/dpf and it tested at less than 1/4 of the maximum limit for the exact engine, and less than 1/12th of the limit for the maximum for it's age (with no present engine bay sticker)

So the EGR just needs a remap in order to delete it rather than physically blanking them ? reason im asking is because i got this fault code EGR Temp Sensor A - Circut High ( Permanent ) P040D-00 and thought if i can send it to someone to blank out the EGR entirely by coding rather than changing or addressing whatever parts that needs replacement for that .. Thoughts ?
@RoughRestos

Correct, no physical alterations required, providing that sensor isn't required for any other use it could be mapped out, although it just sounds to be a faulty sensor/bad connection
