You talked over and missed the most painful lyric in "Tolerate It" "Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life"... that is just so so painful to be in a relationship that you've given so much to, that that's what you've been reduced to... begging to be a footnote.

I feel like 'Tis the damn season and Dorothea are connected. Tis the damn season is from the girl's perspective who left her hometown and the boy she loved to chase a career in LA and now wonders what it would've been like if she chose to stay. Joe is actually playing piano in Evermore and Aaron Dessner said that having him play it was really important for both him and Taylor, btw. I think that song is probably referencing how shitty her mental health was in 2016 (when they met) and how she managed to get through that.

Dorothea is actually one of my all time faves. I have a friend that was my absolutely favorite human in high school. We were so close and practically read each other’s minds and I felt like she could really understand me and that we saw the world in a same way. Now we live in different countries and the tiny little screen is the only place we see each other on and I only have well wishes for her :/ I’m both happy and sad about this and the song captures that feeling perfectly 😭

Let’s say this, evermore deserves several listings. It’s obvious that you can’t connect to songs when you don’t know about the connections with the other songs and the stories and the persons behind it. People say it’s not as good as folklore but if you listen to it often and understand the songs you can also make connections with songs of the folklore album. People have to appreciate the evermore album more!🤍
@Riya-nj2wc3 жыл бұрын
there's a theory that "tis the damn season" and "Dorothea" are connected. the girl in tis the damn season comes to her hometown for holidays and looks back on what could have been the possible potential relationship if she didn't leave for LA. In Dorothea, the narrator of the song is singing about Dorothea who left the town to make it big in the city.

You were spot on about the Gatsby references in Happiness! She makes a couple of literary references on Folklore and Evermore. For instance, she wrote Tolerate It with the novel "Rebecca" in mind. Ivy is about Emily Dickinson's romantic relationship with her sister-in-law.
