I can't believe she wrote so many songs of this calibre in like, 9 months. How?! And some of them among the best of her career! There are so many over the two that are just knockouts. I love the feelings these two albums give me. They really create a specific mood and I'm here for it. It's not how I react to her pop stuff and I'm glad we get it all! I think evermore will inevitably be compared to folklore because they came out so close together, but it's wild how they both stand up as individually sound projects. The sort of writing she is doing here is in line with what she's always done, but obviously she's matured as a songwriter over the years. But you can see it taking shape in the early stuff and it's interesting!

Idk if this is right but I feel like the hectic beat in 'Closure' mixed with the smoother melody represents her trying to move on and forget about whatever happened and this person keeps coming in and trying to bring up the past for their own sake in a way that's constant and hard to ignore, and they are represented in musical form (erratic beats) as being so irrelevant to the main melody (hers) and therefore they are incompatible and it would not make sense for them to reconnect.

In an interview she said all her other albums were full of angst because she was a teenager /early 20s but she is in a different place now. And so she started thinking of another pathway for creating music. The pandemic brought the imagination out and she realized she could actually go down this path of songs about scenarios she imagined instead of it being about her life anymore. And I love settled down Taylor though pissed off, unapologetic Taylor on Reputation is awesome. It not like anything else you expect. But yes, her songwriting & lyricism is bar none.

Tbh I didn't like gold rush either. Just felt out of place and more 'poppy' than what's expected from what we heard in folklore. Maybe it's just a lil jarring. Also not a big fan of dream pop. Reminded me of how it took me forever to like Starlight. Same vibes.

another folk album that came out this year is Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher. another record that is beautifully written and produced. the title track there is dedicated to Elliot Smith, one of her greatest influences. ps. she talked about Taylor on some of her tweets (and some say that taylor listened to Punisher while making folklore and evermore). a lot of fans of both artists want them to collaborate because both released great albums this year

The piano in Exile, Champagne problems, Coney Island and Evermore is Joe, her boyfriend and that's soo beautiful and those are some of the best songs in the two albums
3 жыл бұрын
@@eltelw8209 Thanks for the comment, I was always interested in knowing more about Joe as a person and just occasionally hearing him out more about his art and his life in general, and unfortunately the fact that Taylor's relationships always get dissected on the pubblic square made her decide to shelter him and their relationship much more than in the past, which I completely respect and understand because frankly I don't think she's ever been consistently happy for this long and I really think she deserved that as much as Joe deserves to have his privacy from all the tabloids. Also I think that is a key factor of the chemistry they've shown both in their relationship and in their collaboration on these two albums, as Taylor said in her documentary "I also was falling in love with someone who had a really wonderfully normal, balanced, grounded life." That's the type of life that she was looking for, also that's more genuine and intimate than she got the chance to experience before. But then again it's also a kind of shame that Joe's character and his obvious and multifaceted talent for the arts isn't more renowned. Personally just by reading the lyrics Taylor writes about him I think he really is something out of the ordinary, exactly like she is.

You should listen to her Grammy Museum acoustic performances to some of her bigger songs from 1989. She not only explains where they come from but the acoustic approach and her voice is fabulous. Lastly you should watch folklore:Long Pond Studio sessions. Watching them together singing it ‘live’ and again talk about what’s behind the songs and how they can about.

loved your comment on the Champagne Problems chord progression. It's in my top 3 on this album (changes constantly, i can't decide) and i immediately recognized the chord progression because she used it for All Too Well (from the RED album), which was widely recognized as her magnum opus before folklore came out. Those four chords are dangerous in her hands, she's too good at heartbreak ballads. not sure if you've reacted to RED already but i would love a reaction to All Too Well at least, it's a renowned classic in the taylor swift cinematic universe

To all, if you still don't know or just amazed how did Taylor write these beautiful songs all of a sudden, you clearly haven't listened to her old albums. Her country albums FEARLESS and SPEAK NOW, which she wrote at the age of 17 and 19 (SN is entirely self-written after critics complained that she didn't write her songs, only their co-writers did) showcases her talent at songwriting and storytelling, which set her apart from other growing artists at the time, earned her praise and 7 out of 10 Grammys came from there too. RED made her place at the top as it was considered as a lyrical masterpiece of taylor (now folklore and evermore joined the chat). after her pop crossover, ofc she can't write the same kind of lyrics, but they still have SIMILAR GREAT SONGS, which never became singles. She is one of the greatest songwriters of our generation. Thanks for coming to my taylor swift's songwriting appreciation talk... btw, her guitar playing skills are criminally underrated!

Aaron and Bryce Dessner both participated in her re-records on Fearless and Red for her From The Vault songs they produced. Jack produced some of the Vault songs too. What is great about those songs is she isn’t beholden to recreate them as the other songs that were on the original albums so they are richer, more mature in delivery than the ones she is redoing. Worth the time to check them out.
