I would’ve liked to see the plate umpire be the one to argue with Ross since he was the one who threw him out. It is a bad look when other umpire comes charging in full speed and starts going at the manager when he wasn’t even involved. Only time you need to intervene is if ejecting umpire is being surrounded outnumbered with multiple team members yelling (which rarely happens anymore) or if the umpire is being physically attacked. Other than that, let the ejecting umpire handle it on his own.
@Soon2BRev
@Soon2BRev 2 жыл бұрын
Home plate umpire isn't the crew chief. The chief comes in because they are the chief and the situation can go from nothing to barn-burner is an instant.
@DJTexan
@DJTexan 2 жыл бұрын
Well it doesn’t matter if he isn’t the crew chief. It was his call. When I started umpiring we were trained to defend our calls and handle the managers on our own. The ejecting umpire doesn’t need to be bailed out regardless if he isn’t crew chief. If he is brave enough to quick hook manager he can handle the argument. Besides, it’s not like this umpire doesn’t have experience. He spent years in minors where players and managers are even crazier than this. Btw this situation got crazier when the other umpire intervened so your barn burner theory doesn’t apply. Only time other umpire needs to intervene is when ejecting umpire is being outnumbered with team members arguing or if he is physically attacked.

@@DJTexan Thanks for noticing my silly profile picture. I'm glad you like it. If you've ever sniffed professional baseball you know in the big leagues, the manager doesn't get to "have his money's worth" with the AAA guy. It's been that way for 100 years. And if you've really been to pro school you know that pro school is verrrry different from how umpiring in professional baseball actually works, much less MLB.

…OK, so Ross has a point with the umpires not conversing over the degree of intent in this scenario, and as long as I’ve watched the game of baseball, I read the umpires’ names like, “Who TF are these people? How is someone a crew chief whose name I’ve rarely seen work a game before?” MY problem with this is, Wednesday night’s game was Game 3 of 4 in this series…I know they worked last night, but I’m unsure if they had Game 1…Both managers KNOW this crew and are aware that the crew chief isn’t a 1 or 2, so if an issue like this arose (and it did), why is Ross so surprised/incensed at how they handled this? Who DOESN’T know Hunter Strickland has had blowups with players who can turn around his fastball if he doesn’t spot it with consistency? Who DOESN’T know he’s a veteran goon who protects his teammates (in this case, Joey Votto who, let’s not forget, drove in three of the four runs they scored)? Rowan Wick didn’t throw with intent; the deficit was two late in the game and he didn’t wanna put anyone on base to give his team a chance to win next time up. Bottom line: If the umpires at least convened before the decision was made to toss Ross after Wisdom was hit, he wouldn’t have had an issue. They didn’t, he was…and today, with two hard throwing starters (Greene more than Steele), and an overcast mid-70s day in the air, and this same crew in place, this one’s gonna get madd ugly quickly if some towers get buzzed often.

David Ross acts like he never played the game. What's his beef exactly? The tying run comes to the plate! You need that base runner. Your pitcher started this nonsense, by going high and in to Votto. Votto didn't flip the bat! It was a walk! You flip the bat after a home run. Not a walk.

Plate ump didn't do that. It was the partner that came in a pretty much looked like he was just throwing it back at Ross, knowing full well Ross was just crying about nothing. Hell, even in the interview after the game Ross said that Votto "stepped towards the pitcher". Yeah, after the pitcher mouthed off to Votto.

Are these cubs broadcasters, have they been around long?. Have they ever seen another game with votto against any team. He literally throws his bat like that every time he's walked. And for good reason. Once again the cubs are acting like children, with David Ross being the biggest child of all. As a veteran catcher, he knew it wasn't a big deal, just wanted to blurt out nonsense for 5 minutes. Also, the whole entire dynamic changed when happ missed that ball trying to style out. Thats when the childsplay began.

Oh Tim Anderson is racist huh? I am white and don't believe Anderson is a racist now Donaldson on the other hand is a different story. Now to Votto and his bat flip. He didn't flip the bat to show off he did it as a "thats what I thought b****"disrespectful way. No need for Votto to disrespect him like that. Ross knows good and well Votto went back in that dugout and told his team they better hit someone next inning.
