Ever since 2015, the world has been plagued with the question, "Who would win? 1 trillion lions, or the sun?" I'm going to take a scientific approach, while diving into tangents about what "trillion" means, physics thought experiments, and more! Want to know who will win? The answer won't surprise you!

As a liontologist, I've often caught small groups of lions plotting to snuff out the sun and end all life. Pray they can never organize the numbers to fuse into a black hole.

The thing that most people sleep on is the species of Lions we use to take on the sun. Now Barbary lions for example are now extinct, but they were living in the Atlas mountains. So they already had an advantage over their savannah and desert cousins by naturally being closer to the sun.

The way i thought of this problem is using a few assumptions 1. all lions weigh 187.5kg (weight used in this video) 2. in order for the lions to “win” there needs to be 2 remaining on earth 3. when the lions fly into the sun, 100% of their mass gets absorbed by the sun. in order for the lions to defeat the sun, they need to pass the Chandrasekhar limit, the point at which the sun would begin to collapse due to gravity. this is about 1.44 solar masses, or 2.864e30 kg (assuming the suns mass is 1.989e30 kg at this time) Dividing 2.864e30 by 187.5 will give us the amount of lions necessary to pass this limit, which is 1.527552e28 (plus 2 back on earth) this would be give or take: 15,275,520,000,000,000,000,000,000,002 lions, which is roughly 15.275 septillion lions. (I only spent 5 minutes thinking of this solution so let me know if i’ve overlooked anything)

Once you have enough mass to form a star, that's it. You can dump any amount of matter into it that you want. It might temporarily extinguish fusion, but the operative word there is "temporarily." Gravity drawing more matter in, pressure increases, temperature increases, and eventually fusion will re-ignite, and the star wakes up.

This probably culminated in the western world in the crusades where countless thousands were slaughtered for no gain. It's actually surprisingly difficult to plunge things into the sun. Because any object launched from earth carries on the momentum from the Earth's orbital velocity. 30 KM/s or 67,000 miles per hour. In order for an object to fall into the sun you have to cancel out this orbital velocity. Which takes a lot of fuel and energy, infact it's far easier to make an object leave the solar system than it is to plunge it into the sun. I think how one satellite got close to the sun was performing gravitational sling shot orbits around Jupiter and the Sun to slowly cancel out the velocity over several years before finally making an approach to the sun. This was just to get into a near sun orbit tho, and not to fall into the sun.
