A few of the guys and I decided to go to El Salvador for my brother's bachelor party. None of us surf as much as we used to, but we can still stand up! Brought my Panasonic G9, Leica 100-400mm, GoPro Hero 5, and DJI Spark to capture the trip on video. I've never edited this much footage before nor have I used 4k before. Definitely need to get more practice with Davinci Resolve; it really does not like the 4k files from the G9. I need to figure out a good format to convert the footage prior to Resolve.
Overall the trip was super fun and we didn't have any problems. Stayed in El Sunzal which is just west of La Libertad. The main roads were very well paved and google maps was pretty much spot on with directions. The swell was somewhat out of the wrong angle but still had a few days of surf. We hit up KM59, KM61, El Zonte, Punta Roca, and Mizata. My favorite wave on the trip was definitely Punta Roca. All the locals were friendly and I didn't feel any sense of danger during the hole trip. A few spots had some locals that camped out in the parking spots; they'd sell coconuts, sodas, beers, and even help you out with your board while walking on the rocks. Sometimes they'd run down and give you flip flops to wear as you exited the water and had to cross the super hot rocks. For a few bucks you can support the locals and have a nice time at the beach without your car getting broken into!. There were also lots of locals taking photos and videos of all the visiting surfers.
The water fall in the video is Cascades de Tamanique. It's about a 1 hour drive from El Tunco. The google map directions are very accurate and even continue on into the hiking part of it... However, I highly suggest paying for a guide in Tamanique. We drove through the two and stopped at a dirt driveway, asked the guy where the waterfall was and where we could park. He graciously let us park in his driveway and his two daughters guided us all the way to the falls and back. The falls are multi-level and you could probably spend a few hours exploring the whole thing. Water is cool and refreshing!
Enjoy the vid!!!
