Solid review. For 99% of people, the gun really doesn't matter. It's the same 9mm round in every single gun anyway. You could be a great shooter with a stock Glock, and shoot way better than someone who has the latest and greatest / most tricked out 2011 in the world but only shoots a box of ammo once or twice year. I'd say any Staccato is a good albeit expensive option for someone who is looking to begin their little journey outward from the more ubiquitous "starter pack" striker-fired polymer guns, but doesn't want to drop $4k+ for something truly niche and custom. Basically a hobbyist / enthusiast purchase to have fun with every once in awhile, and nothing else. And if it's for duty use, it's a fine option, but moreso a flex / status thing depending on your agency's culture, since it doesn't do anything a Glock or a Smith already does.
@rodiculous94642 ай бұрын
I would argue it does matter since most people DONT shoot enough and so when they pick up a staccato it makes them feel like John wick. I am fully convinced this is where like 90% of the 1911s popularity comes from, it's just an easy gun to shoot accurately and most people can't shoot and don't practice and want to just buy skill

Good review. I think there is sort of a third and half type of user who is familiar with pistols and wants to buy something top of the line-ish but still a production gun with lots of support, access to mags, not a two year wait, etc. That gives them something to use and improve where they know it probably isn't the gun's fault if something goes wrong (assuming it is lubed and sprung properly), but if it is the gun it is easy to send it back for repair.

I've been carrying the XC on duty for several months now after my admin opened up our policy to Staccatos. Staccato recommended a 10lbs recoil spring and I'm running about a 4-4.5 lbs trigger. I've had no issues so far. One thing I will say is this pistol needs care, I check to make sure it is properly oiled before every shift.

Where and when did staccato recommend the 10lb spring? Just curious
@James_the_not_so_Magnificent3 ай бұрын
My recollection is that was the spring weight on the duty version as advertised or spec'd. I'm old,near the end of Police life expectancy, so don't hold it against me if I'm wrong.😅 10ish pounds does seem to be the universal spring weight for 5" 9mm 1911s /2011s. It works. I didn't spec the duty version, I wanted the nice trigger, but I knew going in the 7lb would be too weak for anything other than a range toy.

Every five inch 9mm 1911/2011 I've handled has been undersprung. The manufacturers do this to enhance the soft shooting experience everyone wants. But, it doesn't aid reliability. I've installed at least an eleven pound spring in every one. One thing that seems to have dropped from common knowledge is that all metal guns, with long bearing surfaces, need lubrication. Quite unlike a plastic fantastic. Being an old geezer, this is known to me. :) As a retired cop with 40+ years behind the 1911, I'd never consider that expensive chunk for a duty weapon. The 2011's that are priced around $1k to $1500 are realistic in pricing. Being the owner of a few STI-era guns, they are really nice, but they aren't the ultimate hammer fired double stack platform. The Staccato P/XC are capable of fulfilling duty/self defense/even carry roles... S2 not a chance.

dropping the slide is certainly not the best idea for maintaining nice clean hammer/sear engagement surfaces. its sure not worth arguing those that think its just fine and it wont hurt the trigger job.

The X9 is not comparable to the XC. Wilson in general will be more expensive than Staccato but they don’t offer a gun like the XC.

Great review. Duty pistol…I remain sceptical. How many LEO can afford it? Cops require pistols built like 4x4s

Are you in 1939? Starting salary is $60k in my town, major cities is more. SGTs in phoenix are making over $150k. Most cops are clueless about guns. The ones that are into being excellent shooters, are in special units and understand this could make a difference, buy them. We get the P and they give an amazing discount,15% off, three free mags and the plate you need. Not everyone lives paycheck to paycheck.

For most part he is right. Sold my Cz orange to fund my 2011 and instantly regretted it. They are not duty ready. Vogel started with one and ditched it for Glock and never looked back.
