There are a number of bursae around elbow structures, and a couple of important ones that can be damaged. Also, what's a bursa?

Makes it easy to understand - explains clearly and delivers at the right pace to allow the facts to sink in (and of course adds a little humour)

Thanks for this excellent and informative explanation of olecranon bursitis. I have developed olecranon bursitis and I've seen a doctor, but I was given a quick pat on the head and sent on my way. The condition was not explained to me and I was not given any treatment instructions. I left the doctor feeling confused and a little afraid. I feel much better after watching and listening to you. Thanks for the video.

Three years ago I damaged my right bursa by pressing very hard down on it with my entire strength, on my boat deck. I was trying to get back aboard. I had nearly capsized my new 18 foot racing catamaran in heavy air, and was unable to get back on board from the water. With my last burst of effort, I got nearly up on board from in front of the front crossbar. "Last burst" was grabbing something on the deck and using all energy left to pull myself up aboard. This worked (hurray!), but pushed so hard down on the right bursa that it burst a largish blood vessel and immediately started filling that forearm with blood. Now it is 2 miles back to the beach, so I went "home". All other racers were single-handers, 2 miles the other way, no cel phones anywhere, no power boats. Somebody dropped my carbon fiber mast which broke stuff. My BLOOD FILLED FOREARM got better by itself 3 months later.

Thank you for another utilitarian lesson. The olecranon subcutaneous bursa is well visualized with ultrasound and amenable to injection. Last year I diagnosed a first episode of gout in a man with elbow pain and swelling after aspirating the superficial bursa and sending the fluid for analysis. I was unaware of the other minor bursa especially the subtendinous bursa

Mr Webster, I am dealing with this now without any pain. I was working very hard on triceps using dumbells. I also swim a lot but think the weight lifting may have caused my problem. Can you comment on the likelihood of what happened pleased? It is slowly getting smaller after a month. I did have the fluid drawn off but it filled back up. Thanks, I learn a lot off of your videos.

I broke my elbow 15 years ago, and to this day (and getting worse) I get really painful bursa pain. I think I must have bone spurs. What a time, I am going to have to get it sorted, cos it keeps me awake at night now. Thanks for the info, is nice to learn the inner mechanics somewhat.

I'm 7 weeks into an olecranon buritis inflamation issue. Had it drained once and a cortisone injection done. Two weeks later it filled up again with fluid and looks much like a golf ball hanging down from my elbow. Tried resting it, Advil, supplements, ice, rest, still having issues so headed to see a specialist this week. I fell on my left elbow while jogging and that's what started it all. It just doesn't seem to be healing and I'm not sure why. Thanks for the video.

I have bursitis now on my left elbow. It hurts a little, think I got it from working out at the gym or leaning my elbow on my chair at work. I’ve had this for over 2 months already and it finally looks like it’s starting to go down.

Hello Sam, looking at your video I realize that you are the only one that speaks about medial epicondyle. My problem is that the elbow has swollen on the inside and it`s a bit warm. The most probable cause is from me leaning on the desk for hours while working, and carrying my kid resting on one hand for 1 - 2 hours per day. My main concern is that this can be infected since it`s warm? The information on the internet is confusing and can`t find anything about it. If I search by the term Medial epicondyle I find that it`s a tendonitis ( can`t find any info about a sub bursa) and they say it`s normal to get swollen and warm.... The doctors here some of them are not that good and they look an google for answers... Can you offer some feedback. Thanks

With so many women taking aromatase inhibitors and many experiencing resulting joint and tendon issues, there is a need for educational videos on this available on KZfaq, for family physicians and patients. Perhaps a colleague (or you?) might consider doing one?

What is the one you mentioned at 10:58? I think this is the "muscle" I was looking for. I dont have issues with it. I recently saw thst it was getting larger, this is because I was training my triceps more often recently. It is a small muscle, but can feel pretty hard and soft, depending of flexing or lettingbit rest. It almsot looks like a second Olecranon. Can you please mention the name of yhe muscle I am describing? Thank you in advance.

Following a violent impact on a rock , doing whitewater kayaking , some pea size soft tissue calcified and had to be removed. Now I'm confused , because I feel there is only skin over bone ... and no tendon there ... and never had any mecanical problem , only a pressure pain like a rock in a shoe. Surgeon never explained what he did ... surgeon/peasant relation. Could it be that he took off the bursa and the calcium pea was a bone chip under the tendon ? But then why take off the bursa ? ( surgery was a year later and only the pea was a problem ) Note : surgeon should have put some silicone under skin ... coz bone doesn't like to have only skin covering it

So the doctor told me that I'd have to stop repetitive elbow motions to make my bursitis go away. I guess that ends my sex life for a while.
