This is another natural alternative to charred cloth.

A few weeks ago NW Primate posted a video where he used the pith of a red elderberry (Sambucus Recemosa) to make charred material that catches a spark very good.
It got my attention and since I have a lot of black elderberry (Sambucus nigra) around in my area I decided to give this a try.
No surprise it worked very nice but I had some struggles producing a spark from a piece of quartz hat I found. The rock was breaking apart and it was hard to find an edge that would hold up and produce a spark.
Once I got the spark, it wasn't to long that the pieces of charred elder pith started to glow red. The pieces are great at catching a spark and are quick to burn so you have to pile the pieces together so the ember spreads. There is also a bit of problem with the pieces flying out, because they are so light.
When selecting the branches to collect the pith you need to watch for the dead and dried branches that are soft and almost squishy to the touch. You can use your fingers to remove the outer bark very easily.

Pred nekaj tedni je NW Primate objavil videoposnetek, kjer je uporabil Divji bezeg (Sambucus recemosa), da bi ustvaril oglenel material, ki zelo dobro ulovi iskre.
To je pritegnilo mojo pozornost in ker imam v svoji okolici veliko Črnega bezga (Sambucus nigra), sem se odločil, da to poskusim tudi sam. Ni presenečenje, da je delovalo zelo lepo. Imel sem le nekaj težav pri dobivanju iskre iz kremenovega prodnika, ki sem ga našel. Kamen se je zelo drobil in težko je bilo najti rob, ki bi zdržal udarce in ustvaril iskro.
Ko sem dobil iskro, ni bilo tako dolgo, da so kosi zoglenelega jedra bezga začeli tleti z lepo rdečo barvo. Zogleneli kosi mehkega jedra bezga so odlični pri lovljenju isker in se hitro razžarijo, tako da jih morate kopičiti skupaj, da se žar lahko širi. Obstaja tudi nekaj težav s kosi, ki poletijo v zrak ob vetru ali pihanju, ker so tako lahki.
Ko izberete veje za nabiranje mehkega jedra bezga, morate izbirati mrtve in posušene veje, ki so mehke in stisljive na dotik. Iz takih vej lahko s prsti zelo enostavno odstranite zunanje lubje in pridete do mehkega jedra.
