The air brake's key use is for performing 360 spin jumps on hyper spaceway and electron avenue.

I can hardly describe the actual process of u-turning but when I have to do it my eyes roll into the back of my head and I can use it to make half-a-dozen micro-corrections within seconds.

I feel like I'm getting the Nitro Fueled fever too late already, but I had no idea the game was so good so I only picked it up like a year ago... Awesome video, had no idea you could U-Turn whilst on the ground.

Normally, when I want to U-Turn I mess up, lose speed, or even worse. Sometimes I can do it but mostly without realizing that I'm doing it.

yea you're right, because i litterally just looked for U-turning. I didn't even know much about the other stuff because I didn't know.

Thank you for providing a monkey touch monolith moment for me. While I had grasped the concept of air-braking...kinda, I had no idea what I was doing wrong for U-turns. It turns out I was on the right track, I just wasn't going diagonally enough. It's like Harry Potter, you gotta go DIAGONALLEY for it to register.

Very informative and useful. I would say that the hardest part is coordinate your button presses so you don't end up braking by accident, losing the reserves. But its good to know how it works so i can take a better advantage of it. Thanks man!

Legitimately never used air-braking in my entire GP career. U-turning was just that good that it felt like Air-Braking is entirely useless. > Mains Turning Engine

This is an excellent video. I never knew or understood the air brake input until you broke it down. I was wondering why that happened sometimes. So now I know it’s just the U-turn command sequence but without the down input and that it can only be done if your kart is airborne. Thank you for constructing this. -- I also utilize a Hitbox to play CTRNF, so it was cool to see Velo make an appearance and for the Hitbox controller to get some love. 😁🔥🖤

Going from analog to keypad is game changing. Much more precise

The real problem is when trying it with the joysticks, if you haven't "agile" thumbs it's hard to keep that diagonal direction at that specific point, a slightly move of the joystick and you lose not just the blue fire but the entire turn itself.

Surprisingly I had no idea what U-Turning was until I had already beaten 30 of the dev time trials. I play on the Switch and didn't even know there was a difference between Air-Brake and U-Turn. I Needed to learn U-Turn for Turbo Track, Hot Air Skyway, Thunderstruck, and Drive-Thru Danger. I managed to beat all other tracks with out U-Turn. Definitely a huge advantage to know how to now though! Thanks for the vid!

Thank you for more details on this I always air brake cuz I thought that was u turning but I always messed up on certain track until I made my own twist to air braking which was tapping square rapidly to do u turn but I could only do it in the air and not on the ground but this made much much more sense thank you

I feel like I'm getting it down for the really big jumps, but doing more grounded turns like the loop in the mines is throwing me completely off.

you could also have mentioned air-brake with rapidly tapping brake button instead of holding it.

I don't think air-brake is faster then u-turn in Cortex Castle, but I think it may have some usage in relic races.

To say that good players primarily don't use air break might be a bit of a stretch even though u-turning definitely is necesarry in some places.

Well, I've been doing it all wrong. Seems like it's easiest to do on PS4 as the d pad buttons are crunched together. Whereas on the Switch and Xbox One, the directional buttons are pretty spaced. I guess you could angle the analog stick as well, but lacking the crevices to help direct a down left or down right can make it challenging.

I was able to beat N.Trophy on Electron Avenue thanks to this guide. I'm stuck against oxide though, does pressing down on the d-pad harder make you turn faster when u-turning?

So this is why I can no longer do Hot Air Skyway’s u turn shortcut 😱 I used to be able to do it when the game launched but now I almost always overshooting was U turning and not air braking

its crazy i didnt even know this :D and i got top 200 highscore times on accel xdd but i always used to spam the break button in air to basically do the same thing, i thought ppl did it that way

Honestly air brake is only. Really good on cortex castle and maybe maybe clockwork wumpa just because of the abrupt sharp angles but after this last patch they fixed the wall collision and hit detection with karts and such so u turning might just be the go to now also air brake can help in maintaining a certain speed in several tight right corners and than letting it all out in one big burst of speed but again the only track I can think of that really uses this to its max is cortex castle other than that yea you’re right u turning is the better of the two

It’s stupid difficult to u-turn with a Switch Pro Controller due to its sensitive d-pad. So air-braking it is, unfortunately. Side note: I also use a strategy sometimes where I mash the brake button while air-turning, and it somewhat emulates u-turning.

I saw in other of your videos that you take some curves on tracks using "mini U-turns" and you never lose your fire, I tried a million times to do that and always my fire gets lost. What i'm doing wrong? and which tracks are good for training the u-turning?

I played this game for 8 months and thought I was doing u turn while I was doing air brake. Not only that but I think my gamepad is really awful to make u turn so I might have to play with another one. This will change my life
