Despite the meagre warmth from the few candles he had found Tommy still shivered. Images of tough Alaskan men being torn to pieces still haunted his vision and the howling wind pressing against the frail panes of the rustic cabin seemed to mirror the sounds of their screams. Most vivid of all was his cousins face yelling at Tommy to run, to get back alive and save himself even as… as he was being dragged from the ground into the forest canopy, into the fangs and mandibles of what? Those things...hideous gibbering, chittering abominations the size of bears but more spider than anything else.
Ten armed men had set out from Anchorage on the trail of a supposed killer. His cousin claimed it was some sort of monster which at the time Tommy and found absurd. Not anymore. Instead, 3 days out near Bear Creek they had found death and horror. They had come across an eldritch glowing tear of energy cutting across the creek and dozens of those things skittering about warping the landscape into a scene from a madman's nightmare. The following 2 days were a blur of terror, running, shooting and desperate hope.
Tommy was the last one, but he was still a day out from Anchorage and despite Becky, his rifle, saving his life more than a few times he knew he was running out of time as the creatures closed in. By sheer luck he had come across this deserted cabin just as night was falling and subsequently barricaded himself in. He now sat in the dim glow of the candles facing towards the windows and door one dirt and blood encrusted hand gripping Becky the other turning pages of a book he had found among the possessions within the cabin.
There was something alluring about this book. To his disciplined mind, he should have been grimly focused on staying awake and watching for danger, yet he could not stop studying this book. The author some visionary called Gloria Goldberg was portraying strange and wonderful places full of enchantments and wonders, the like Tommy's mind had never conceived. Shining cities, the moon even some sort of hell was reflected in such vivid art and frescoes.
Tommy was exhausted. No sustenance, rest and sheer exertion suddenly caught up with him. As he gazed upon an image of a magic forest he felt a crushing need to sleep descend upon him. As his vision began to fade the trees and flowers seemed to move upon the pages and the scent of berry teased his nostrils. So pleasant and inviting, but wait, was that the sound of clattering and chittering he could hear at the edge of his senses upon the roof...

Hi Doug! I can't abide Dark Pacts. :D They are pretty much a death sentence Turn 1 with the amount of yellow Mythos cards we have to go through with Altach! :D But as you will probably get a game if this keeps up I'll keep your preference in mind! ;-) Cheers for watching, mate. :) Paul.

I thought Mandy still has to take the impairment token to strength as any improvement to strength would remove the impairment token, therefore removing her physical impairment. I'm not trying to kick her when she's down, it's more of a observation as when I drew that card we had something similar happen to our lead investigator we still applied the token to ensure it was an impairment. It was looking like a good first turn until the kick in the goolies.

Lately I was destroyed by couple of these in a row on the start of the game. When the first rumor came I was like "thanks for not killing me". Then after rumor was another attack on health/sanity of investigators and it was basicly a game over!

Wow a horrid end to a first turn! On a minor note I think you should have picked up the Divination card. It cost you nothing and would have cycled another card into the reserve. Leaving it there reduces the options for the next player acquiring assets.

Hi Arthur. I did consider that but thought we might want the option to put some blue gates to the bottom of the stack later on. We could pick it up when we have some blue constellation gates showing in the top 3 and pop them to the base of the stack - as it stood we had a green comet and two red sunbursts which are more manageable. Blue gates cycle round twice in a rotation so are better to get rid of.

Is the board worth it if it is only used with Hypnos and the relevant prelude? Which is your favourite expansion? Do you have a preference in either Eldritch or Arkham games? I’m looking to get another expansion after Foresaken Lore and am torn between DL, CiR and SR.

My favourite is Dreamlands. But yes it can be difficult to get it to the table as you need the Prelude to use it with any other AO than Hypnos. I prefer Arkham Horror 2nd Edition but Eldritch is an excellent game.

@@Catweazle00 Thanks. I really want to try AH2E but I don't know if I'd be able to convince my partner to play as she finds Eldritch too long. Very tempted to pick it up from eBay if a good deal can be found. Have you tried 3E? The LCG looks fantastic but would be expensive for me as I would opt to play new expansions rather than replay what I had got. Do you read the novellas etc?

Catweazle i am in need of your help! For Hours I am searching for the dice you are using. The plastic ones with the sharper edges. Exactly like the ones which came with Arkham Horror Base game . Do you know where to get them? What are they called? Which manufacturer? Which size? All i find are white dice with round edges or wodden ones. Aaahh!

Umm... Hastur is Cthulhu's half-brother, and their common grandmother is Shub-Niggurath :P Other sources say Hastur is the son of Yog-Sothoth, which would mean that Shub is upgraded from Grandmother to Mother, seeing as Hastur is a bit to old to be the offspring of Lavinia Whateley and Yog has not had any other er... wives I guess you could call them, if they have that term.

well you always try to explain away it when he does something nasty, like killing off an investigator snooping around carcosa, and we don't really know how old constitutes adult for outer gods anyho, who knows he might be a child by their standards and you are basically picking on a lil kid
